That's funny, because I have a Vizio and it's a great tv. There is nothing wrong with it.

        Re: Vizio VX37L HDTV

Most of these tv's use the same parts and alot of the off brand names ones have the brand name parts inside. I know Bestbuy has one, Costco has one so all of that get what you pay for is garbage.

Technology changes too much and comes cheaper nowadays. I remember HDTV's being the price of a motorcycle and that wasnt too long ago.

To anyone who used a Vizio for Gaming can you share what you use for visual settings. I just have mine on the default Game mode and I'm sure I could make this better just don't know how...

            I use these for everything:

            Picture mode: Custom
            Backlight: 11
            Contrast: 80
            Brightness: 49
            Color: 54
            Tint: +5
            Sharpness: 1
            Color temperature: Custom

            Custom color temperature
            Red: 150
            Green: 146
            Blue: 114

Of course, tweak to your liking, as your room lighting/setup is probably different than mine.

              Re: Vizio VX37L HDTV

I got my settings from a big vizio vx37l thread on avsforum.com

I don't have a link right now, but I'd think it'd be fairly easy to find. Give Bruins a go (I think they're similar to mine) and if you're happy then don't worry.

IMO if you are happy then don't mess with it, I think you could go crazy tweaking a tv's "sliders" if you let it get to you lol

You mean like 1500:1, 10,000:1, etc?

                  There isn't one.

There is no "standard" definition for contrast ratio, every maker has their own formula.

Where are you hearing nothing but bad things about these? I haven't heard that much about Vizio LCDs but I have heard they make great plasmas. In the LCD market the saying "you get what you paid for", doesn't always hold true. Why would you even bring Pioneer in to the equation. If someone is listing a Vizio do you really think they have the money to buy a Pioneer elite?

I'm trying to really understand what I'd see different on a television with a 1500:1 contrast ratio as compared to a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. That's one of the reasons I haven't been sold on which set to get eventually. I'm loss in this realm seriously. I signed up for the avsforms but don't even know where to begin looking. Maybe I'll wikipedia contrast ratio to get a better understanding. I'm tryign to find an ideal ratio for gaming where I won't be kicking myself a few years from now for going cheaper.......

Dude, the tv's with less contrast ratio have a sort of dull white colored white, off white, dirty white look and you can tell when you view the tv's side by side.

Go to bestbuy and look at that 42 inch westinghouse tv i was considering compared to a better one such as a samsung or something similar. You wont be asking again but for the most part its not that big of a deal for the most part.

Yeah, a higher contrast ratio is better than a lower contrast ratio generally. But there's some high end Samsungs that are 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Now, if you look at 2 Samsung's, one is 10,000:1 and one is 25,000:1, you will see a better pic on the 25,000:1 model.

BUT, if you look at a Sony that is 10,000:1 and a Sammy that is 25,000:1, they could be really similar.

My TV is 8,000:1, looked as good to me as a 15,000:1 Samsung, and close to the 20,000:1 Sammy. Is it? No clue. But once it's in your living room, you have nothing else to compare it to. Remember that as well when buying TV's. I love the picture on my set and I'm very happy with it. I didn't go broke buying it either.

We recently got this same exact TV donated to us at work, I think its great although its still relativly new. We use it for movies and video games and love it.

That's why I say it doesn't matter. Once its home you will likely be satisfied anyhow and won't torch the tv to high levels like the stores do .

As I said though, lots of these tv's nowadays use the same parts so the differences are minimal unless you're buying a certain type of tv with something like ultra scan or something. (I made that name up)
