It's something to this day I'll never understand..but I guess you have to be dead in order to be appreciated.

Music is subject to personal opinion. I don't get how people can't appreciate The Ballad of Curtis Loew as one of the best southern rock songs of all time, but that's just my opinion.

That list of greatest guitar solos is pretty appalling....

The greatest guitar solo I have ever heard is Hubert Sumlin's solo on Howlin Wolf's Hidden Charms.

Frank Zappa did everything any of the other rock God did only better.

Plus there are a million jazz/blues/funk/soul guitarists who have more complete "solos" than a 12 bar rock solo....

as someone said it is all relative to personal opinion but these rock guitarists get way too much hype by people who have never listened to anything but classic rock aimed at white folk.

Kind of hard to put a guy who barely ever plays a chord above SRV. B.B. King is a GREAT entertainer and one of the influential blues guitarists of all time, but his chops aren't in the same league as SRV.

P.S.: I also laugh out loud any time I see Kurt Cobain on a list of the greatest guitarists ever. The more time passes, the more I think Nirvana will become one of the most overrated bands of all time. Fine band, but not in the rock pantheon like most think.

            Take care,

SRV to me is the greatest blues player (and my favorite musician), but Jimi was just pure unadulterated talent with a guitar. He would rip that thing apart and you couldnt believe some of the things he could do, and his creativity is what really set him apart.

Both SRV and BB were and are amazing, though I probably prefer SRV's style and sound over BB. Over the years I studied Blues guitar a whole lot, and though BB's playing is more traditional, I find SRV's playing more exciting. I own every album by both and I pretty much love listening to them.

BTW, I cringe when I see Cobain ranked so high on those All-Time lists. The guy did something for the Grunge genre, but he did absolutely nothing in the guitar world! To see him and some other not-so-great guitarists ahead of Frank Zappa pisses me off just a bit. Yeah, the guy was a comedian, but has anyone ever seen him play? He's a genius and not to mention, he took Vai under his wing and brought him up into the music world.

Stevie never got the love he deserved when he was alive. He was amazing. I went to a concert of his where they threw bottles at the stage.

I'm not a huge fan of Zappa, but he is incredibly good, and his songs are definitely not something you can find anywhere else.
