Chinese Democracy in 08 = Free Dr. Pepper for All!

Guns N' Roses are a once-great pop-metal band with a surprisingly long shelf life, led by a reclusive, volatile frontman who's spent roughly a decade and a half and, reportedly, upwards of $13 million crafting an album/punchline widely known as Chinese Democracy.
Dr. Pepper is a syrupy, prune-like soda beverage brewed by the Cadbury Schweppes corporation.
What the two had in common before this weekend, I couldn't rightly tell you (okay, yes, both are prune-like), but as of March 25, 2008, the fate of the two juggernauts is as intertwined as Dr. Pepper's trademark mélange of 23 flavors.
According to Billboard.com, Dr. Pepper has offered every single person in America (besides famed GNR deserters Slash and Buckethead) a free can of their brew, provided Axl Rose and company release the long-promised Chinese Democracy sometime in the year 2008.

Ah, wackiness, you win again! Though, really, this is an admirable feat of marketing wizardry for all parties involved. Today, folks are once again reminded that, yes, it sure would be great to hear Chinese Democracy before Axl Rose completes his transition into plastic he-beast. Dr. Pepper aren't risking much, since the likelihood of Chinese Democracy arriving this year (hell, this decade) is as slim as it's ever been. And, hey, if Chinese Democracy does, in fact, emerge before 2009? All that sweet Dr. Pepper should help wash down the taste of bitter, bitter disappointment, after nearly twenty years spent waiting for an album that sucks. I mean, unless it's good. Har har.

There's a blog charting the progress of the big "Democracy Now" experiment, with an accompanying press release that attempts to draw some parallel between the Pep and the rocker. "It took a little patience to perfect Dr Pepper's special mix of 23 ingredients, which our fans have come to know and love," Dr. Pepper's marketing director Jaxie Alt points out. "So we completely understand and empathize with Axl's quest for perfection - for something more than the average album. We know once it's released, people will refer to it as 'Dr Pepper for the ears' because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds - an instant classic."

Never gonna happen. It's a shame because some of the stuff supposedly on the album is pretty good. I saw the "new" band (with Buckethead, who's now out) and they put on a good show. Too bad Axel's crazy and the album will never be released.

        Axl's response:

We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album "Chinese Democracy," as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him.

If the album sounds anything like that track on the End of Days soundtrack then it will be one of the worst albums of all time. With that said, I still want to hear it, too bad it probably won't be released until Axl is dead and his estate needs to get a few more bucks out of him.

With the announcement of RB2 and the new content, Guns N' Roses is releasing a new single on the game from their album Chinese Democracy.........could we all get free Dr. Pepper?

The big jaw-to-the-floor announcement is that Guns N' Roses is set to debut a new song from the long-awaited album Chinese Democracy.

I would hope they would be able to come up with one song by now.

Don't get too excited. It's guaranteed to happen at least once where the night before the album is to ship Axl freaks out and pulls the plug and has every copy destroyed so he can run off and hide for another decade.

Though on the optimistic side, I've listened to a few of the "leaks" via youtube of the album and they're actually not that bad. I'm hesistant to say they're good but if those tracks end up making the album and it comes out I'd give it a shot. I probably enjoyed the song going by the name of "Prostitute" the most.

Dr. Pepper is the worst soft drink ever. They claim it's made from 23 flavors, but why do all of them taste like cough syrup?

If this actually happens, someone can claim my free DP.
