My first feature film. A UFO documentary!!

    "SIU-Files: Into the Marley Woods"

It features the well known ufologist Ted Phillips (seen on history channel).

First I will start off saying their are some things I would change about my documentary but as most of you know a deadline is a deadline. My budget for this was about 400.00 that mostly includes donations we received. Of cousrse that doesn't include the money I spent on all of my equipment/software.

The first interview of the film I didn't shoot due to time constraints (work mostly) but everything else my brothers and I shot (not including home video b-roll) I did the bulk of this work in about 3 weeks.
    Equipment/Software I used.

Panasonic DVX100b stock and Letus35 economy for two of the interviews.
    Davis Sanford Tripod
    homemade steadicam
    Britek lights
    Avid Xpress Pro HD
    After Effects
    Cinema 4D
    Photoshop
    Soundbooth
    Encore
    Sorenson Squeeze
    Sonic Fire Pro
    That just about covers it

More to come in a few.....

Here is some of the artwork. I made the DVD Cover and Poster in Photoshop and a little bit of work in AE. Then made a 3d model of the DVD in Cinema 4D and applied my artwork.

Wow this sounds interesting. The trailer doesn't really do much for selling the video but there's enough there to make people interested so I guess it did its job.

Am I gonna hear you on Coast to Coast AM now? LOL!

You just might . For sure Ted Phillips will be on the show(he has been on before and is friends with Nory) to talk about the research in Marley Woods and of course sell the DVD . But my brother, my self and others may go on as well.

I might be on the black vault radio show with my brother hosted by John Greenewald, Jr.,.

I made the trailer in like 3 hours (also my first trailer ) I just wanted something to give to Ted for this weekend. He is going to a conference to speak on this subject.

Is that DVD Cover final and already printed? There were a few things about the back cover grammar wise I would have changed, but otherwise great job!

Thanks rsnomar yeah it is printed but just the first 100 so I can still change things. I actually didn't write the back my brother did.

                Thanks for taking a look!

Well, first of all, it should be "December 1998," not "December of 1998." It's minor, but I know for some people even minor grammatical mistakes can turn them off a product.

Second, the statement "began conducting scientific research into an active UFO site known as 'Marley Woods' is unclear. It should say that he began conducting scientific research "at" an active UFO site. Also, scientific research is too vague. I would say, "In December 1998, legendary UFO researcher Ted Phillips (insert History Channel appearances here in italics) began investigating 'Marley Woods,' a forest in ____________ [location: either city/state or region/state] and rumored active UFO site."

Third, the statement "it has led to" is also unclear. Does "it" mean the forest or the scientific research? The answer, I know, is the scientific research, given the bit about reports from the last 60 years, but this should still be tightened up. In fact, I've combined it with the description of the Special Investigations unit. "In December 1998, legendary UFO researcher Ted Phillips (insert History Channel appearances here in italics) began investigating 'Marley Woods,' a forest in ____________ [location: either city/state or region/state] and rumored active UFO site. Ten years of extensive scientific research later, Phillips has founded the SIU: Special Investigations Unit. Comprised of five leading UFO experts, the SIU strives to uncover one of life's greatest mysteries- Unidentified flying objects."

I'm assuming the documentary deals with with the possibility of alien life. If it does, I would change "Unidentified flying objects" to "Alien life on planet Earth." This way it would read: "Comprised of five leading UFO experts, the SIU strives to uncover one of life's greatest mysteries- Alien life on planet Earth." The "Alien life" version is stronger because it offers up more than just UFO's. You need to draw potential buyers in, and the tag team of UFO's coupled with Alien existence may help do this.

You also need a final paragraph that deals with the "witness accounts." "Credible witnesses" doesn't say much because there is nothing to quantify their respective credibilities. In other words, there is no way for someone reading the back cover to know whether or not the witnesses are credible, and what exactly makes someone a credible witness? Since you do not have time to explain this, I would drop the credible tag altogether in favor of a more common phrase such as "eye-witness accounts."

I moved the witness portion to the final paragraph, and the paragraph should be used to cite the features of the film. The first paragraph is backstory/plot synopsis. The second paragraph is an explanation of why people should purchase the film:

"In December 1998, legendary UFO researcher Ted Phillips (insert History Channel appearances here in italics) began investigating 'Marley Woods,' a forest in ____________ [location: either city/state or region/state] and rumored active UFO site. Ten years of extensive scientific research later, Phillips has founded the SIU: Special Investigations Unit. Comprised of five leading UFO experts, the SIU strives to uncover one of life's greatest mysteries- Unidentified flying objects [or Alien life on planet Earth].

In 'SIU-Files: Into the Marley Woods,' Filmmakers Josh and Adam Johnson were granted exclusive and unparalleled access into the world of Ted Phillips and the Special Investigations Unit. Featuring ______ [length, such as 'hours' or 'over an hour'] of interviews and eye-witness accounts, exclusive uncut footage of actual UFO's, and loads of special features, 'SIU-Files' will bring viewers into the Marley Woods and closer to the UFO mystery than ever been before!"

These are just suggestions, and you don't have to take them, but I think the version I typed above has much more clarity and is more likely to grab a potential purchaser.

thanks a lot rsnomar05 your suggestions are very helpful and detailed. I plan on changing some things on the next print like adding quotes from respected researchers. Thus I can certainly change the text too.

                    thanks

I like the music that you are using, it helps give this documentary and the UFO subject that intriguing feel. Like SPTO said, the trailer just needs to be cut a bit differently and make it sell the DVD more. This is a really good start.

Thanks Candymangt. I hear ya on the trailer but I think it does give the viewer enough to want to buy esepcailly a viewer that researches or is interested in the UFO phenomenona. I will certainly make a new trailer just had to put that together real quick . Thanks for taking a look and thanks for the comments.

Hey I have a question: is this thing going to only be sold at UFO conventions and the like or will it gain a wider release?

When do you plan to release the DVD? How much will it be going for?
