    School me on Wireless routers

Okay, I am going to go wireless but not sure how it works and what all I need? From what I gather, I can get a wireless router and still have my 360 and or PC hooked up wired and my laptop could be wireless correct?

Never tried wireless so "I dunno too much"

What's a good brand of router I shoulod go with?

Get a Linksys G router. It's easy to set up and you'll be wireless in minutes.

I have a Linksys router also which has worked great up until about a month ago. I bought it mainly for Xbox Live, but the connection quality has really dropped lately and I don't know how to fix it.

Any of the major brands are fine, Netgear, Dlink, Linksys. I would not get a wireless N router yet, unless you plan on streaming HD content throughout your house.

              Nah, no HD.

I have one more question too... I got my daughter a computer. Well it's an older one that I cleaned up added some memory etc...

The computer was never used with high speed just dial up. It doesn't look to have the port to connect to high speed. So what do I need to buy to allow this computer to have high speed access? I know I had to buy a part on my pc too when I first got high speed, but I don't remember what I need to go.

Her computer will be wireless since it will be upstairs ( I am still not sure if I want mine to be wired or wireless)

I am thinking the best thing to do is to have both PC's wireless and just have my 360 wired?

Like I said I am new to wireless so not sure what's best and what works. We will have a laptop and then a computer downstairs and one upstairs.

If you want her PC to be wireless you'll need to buy a USB wireless adapter at Best Buy or Circuit City, places like that.

                Something like this:

                  Something like this:

                  http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1099384455623
So that is all I would need?

So too make both PC's wireless I would need to buy two of those and a wireless router I then could plug the cord into the back of the wireless router going into my 360 and I would be good to go correct?

Certain place in the living area I should have the router? One pc upstairs, one down stairs as well as the 360... If I am going to use a cord for the 360 (is that what you recommend?) I should have the wireless router close by correct?

                  Isn't wired a little faster?

The wireless router would need to be connected to your modem, wherever that is in your house. If your computers/xbox are close to that, you can use a wired connection to the router.

If not you will have to buy the wireless adapter for the other PC's/xbox.

What if it's an apartment complex so I guess I wouldn't have a modem in my apartment. The whole complex is wireless...

I see. Looking, it seems the 360 wireless adapter is $100 bucks, yikes!

Guess I got to do what i got to do. I am pretty sure there is no modem in each room, if so I could just then go wired corret?

If there is no modem then you can't do wired at all. Unless they have network jacks built into the wall, which I doubt they do.

Oops I mean if there is no modem I can't go wired...

Alright man, I appreciate all the input. Looks like I am going to spend about $200 bucks on wireless adapters. DOH!

How does the adapter work? like say I get one now and put it on my PC at my girlfriends house (she has wireless) when I move, would I need to configure anything or it would just pick up that signal?

Also will i experience a lot of lag going wireless on the 360?

Will people be able to tap into my pc etc using a wireless network like that?

                              Thanks again
