It's much, much better than Make Believe, it probably lands around Maladriot in my Weezer album rankings(which would put it below Blue, Pinkerton and Green). 3 or 3.5 out of 5 stars IMO.
I guess I should get the bonus tracks then..

I think you should, the first 10 songs on the deluxe edition(which are the 10 on the normal album) aren't all that impressive to me, some good songs for sure, but it is completely hit-or-miss. If I were rating only those 10 tracks I would put it only slightly above Make Believe(which I think is somewhere between 1.5 and 2 stars) with a rating around 2.5 or so. The bonus tracks really add a lot to the album IMO.

I agree. Miss Sweeny, Pig and King (are those your 3?)all should have been on the main album. I think they got bumped so that each of the other 3 members could have a song that that sang on the main album. The whole thing begs the question of why even release two different albums at the same time, why not just the deluxe?

Also, I think Rivers has loosened up his reign of control on the band and is letting the decisions be more democratic than in the past. If you read the booklet, they go into a little detail of what songs were "fought" for to be included. I'm not sure who else (Rubin maybe) was involved in this decision making process, but I agree that they missed the boat on some of their selections....This makes you wonder possible gems were left off of Maladroit and Make Believe.

Check them out and decide for yourself:

          11) Miss Sweeny (my favorite song on the CD)

          12) Pig (this was released as a demo quite a while ago, I couldn't find the album version, this is the demo I believe)

Those are quality songs. At least a couple should have been on the album. King is great.

I'm really enjoying it but I think right now my favorite song has to be "Heartsongs."

I haven't heard the bonus tracks yet.

This song is definitely growing on me. It was one of my least favorites at first, but I really dig the second half when he references Nirvana and then goes on to talk about the formation of the band.

Really besides Automatic and Dangerous (which is catchy in a Dope Nose kind of way), I really enjoy most of it. Even Pork and Beans has grown on me (maybe because of the video).

Dangerous is really the only song I don't like. It's not necessarily that bad but it's one of those songs I can just envision being used in reality shows and low budget movies. You know what I'm saying? I feel like it was written that way because he knew it would become a popular song to buy for **** like that and that he could make some money off the rights to it.

Wow, just downloaded the album yesterday. I think its the most disappointed I've ever been in an album.

The first two songs are absolute trash, as is "Everybody Get Dangerous." Since when did Weezer start to think they were such badasses? Honestly, what were they thinking?

There are a couple of ok songs sprinkled in, Heartsongs is the only really good song on the album IMO.

I guess I just can't let the blue album go. This is pretty disappointing stuff.

Not sure what to make of the whole album (i.e. I'm not sure what sort of rating I'd give it), but I am enjoying it still.

The Angel and The One sounds like Weezer trying to be Jimmy Eat World, particularly with the way the guitars sound as the song is building up (not that that's a bad thing).

There is some good **** on this CD... but there are also some bad things on here. I'm writing up a review for WNR, and I should have it done... sometime... in the future...

I don't understand how so many people like "Heartsongs", it's one of the most cheesy songs I've ever heard, probably the worst song on the album IMO.

I'm still in the middle on the album. There are some good, straight forward Weezer pop songs(Troublemaker, Pork & Beans, and Dreamin' most notably) which are pretty good, "The Angel and The One" is pretty good and I even like "Greatest Man Who Ever Lived" a little. Plus, "Miss Sweeney" and "Pig" are two great bonus tracks, "Spider" is pretty good too.

I think they miss when they let the other members sing, nothing against them, but those songs just aren't that good. Also, the Red Hot Chili Peppers imitation on "Everybody Get Dangerous" is horrible, not to mention the lyrics.

It's a huge improvement over Make Believe, but it's far from a great album.

                            Something I just realized:

What happend to the patented Weezer guitar solo?

90-95% of Weezer songs have a Rivers Cuomo guitar solo after the second chorus.

                            Lyrics/Chorus/Lyrics/Chorus///Guitar Solo///Chorus

This is missing from pretty much every song on the CD. I guess they wanted to take this thing in a whole different direction. There are a few songs that I thought would have benefited from this.

I really don't like the first two verses of the songs where he's just using clever puns to talk about each artist, but I do really like the final verse when the guitar changes and he begins talking about the first time he heard Nirvana and then went on to create the band.

I agree...they could have done away with "Dangerous", "Automatic" and "Thought I knew" and it would have been an overall better album. Unfortunately when you judge an entire abum, you have to hold the bad songs against it.

I'm not sure why they decided to let everyone sing a song, but personally, except for Scott's two songs (Cold Dark World and King), I could have done without them.

***Though with some foresight, i should have seen this coming. When they toured with the Foo Fighters in 2005, Pat sang Photograph and Scott sang Dope Nose (can't remember what Brian sang). Maybe it was a sign of things to come.

I saw them in Atlanta for what I believe was the first night of the Foozer tour, and I'm almost positive Brian Bell sang lead vocals on "Why Bother."

As for the new album, I'm loving it so far. It's not as good as Pinkerton, but I don't honestly think they could put out an album as good as either it or Blue. With that said, I agree 100% on your assessment that "Greatest Man..." and "Miss Sweeney" are the two best tracks on the album. I know I'll never get another Weezer album with tracks on the level of "Across The Sea" or "Falling For You," so I pretty much just enjoy what they give me at this point, and I'm very pleased thus far with the album.
