Taking the HD plunge, need suggestions
So I have saved up about $600 and am finally looking to take the plunge to HD. I've been looking around for a good while now in preparation for this day. I had almost settled on a 26in WestingHouse but after some research, found that the TV had some audio and video sync problems, so I figured I'd get some advice from people who are more versed in the decision making process than I am. Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice HDTV in the $500-$550 range? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Taking the HD plunge, need suggestions
I have a 32" Olevia that I bought on Black Friday for $300. It's an outstanding TV and you can upgrade the firmware so you can stay up to date. It has great picture quality, my only complaint are the speakers. They are lackluster so just use a home audio setup an you are good to go. I have my 360 hooked up through VGA connection and it's great. Best 8 hours waiting in line I ever did.______________________________________

Re: Taking the HD plunge, need suggestions
Only recommendations i can give are these
1) Make sure it has HDMI ports (future compatibility)
2) Widescreen is pretty much a must at this point
3) When you read reviews, take them with a grain of salt. EVERY brand has some issues, so if you find one you like, dont let a few negative thigsn get you down. Every type of TV, every brand, every size has issues, its just a fact of life.
4) Buy something that you will be happy with for a few years. If you have to drop an extra 100 bucks or so for the next size up, but it will make you like it more, do it, its a long term purchase
5) Make sure you have all the cables you need (Dont know your setup, but if you have a 360, or a surround sound system, make sure you have all cables. If you need cables do NOT buy them at a brick and mortar store. They upcharge a ton. PM me, and i can give you a few websites to check out where the prices are a ton better, i.e,. Best Buy HDMI cables (approx 10 feet ) are 50 bucks, these websites have them for $9)
6) When you buy it, ENJOY IT! Its a fun purchase so dont nit pick it
For what its worth, i have a Samsung 61 inch DLP that is just awesome in my "man room" and a Phillips 42" Ambilight in the living room.Check out my Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFM Thread.

Re: Taking the HD plunge, need suggestions
I think the only negative things I've ever heard about Olevia & Vizio's are people complaining about the sound volume. If you have any type of surround sound hooked up then its pretty much a moot point.Comment

Re: Taking the HD plunge, need suggestions
I have an Olevia, and everything said here about picture quality and shoddy sound is correct. But one overlooked plus about the Olevia is its standard-def picture quality -- it's as good as TV's costing twice as much.
That's not a feature people consider when getting a high-def TV, but it's important considering that less than half of the channels on most people's cable or satellite systems are available in HD.
Take care,

Re: Taking the HD plunge, need suggestions
I have a Vizio 32 inch and loving it. I can't say anything bad about the Olevia either...my uncle has it.
I'd just recommend you go with a 32 inch though b/c anything less than that and you rob yourself of HD goodness. When in doubt, go big.
Like has been said earlier, few must have features:
at least 2 HDMI slots
at least 2 component inputs
audio out (for surround sound watching tv)
at least 8ms response time
Get your HDMI cables from www.monoprice.com cheap, cheap, cheapComment

PK, good call on the SD Content. Especially with the Big Picture Technology OLEVIA offers which actually allows for more SD Content to actually make-it on the screen, which in return doesn't make people look stretchedComment
