Re: Movie not playing as widescreen

Weird, I just tried playing a DVD now with upscaling set to "Normal" and it upscaled full screen just fine. So I guess never mind my earlier suggestion.

So when you go into "Display Settings" > "Video Output Settings", is HDMI highlighted for the connector on your TV?Comment

Re: Movie not playing as widescreen

Yes. I've got American Gangster in right now and my only options are WIDE and ZOOM. This is sort of maddening because Kingdom of Heaven plays in widescreen.

Kingdom of Heaven is 2:35:1 and American Gangster is 1:85:1.

I have it set to LETTER BOX/NORMAL now.Comment

Re: Movie not playing as widescreen

I didn't read every single post but I have a question and a possible answer.

You talk about your upscaller options is that a PS3 thing or your TV. If your hooked up through HDMI it should baseically automaticallly upscale it. If there is a option on the ps3 it seems to me normal or off would be the way to go.

Keep in mind if you are playing a movie that has a 1:85:1 aspect ratio there won't be any bars on a 16x9(1:78:1) tv it should fit pretty much full screen.

Also on your remote do you have something like a info button that well brings up a little icon and does it say HDMI or 720p?-JoshComment

Re: Movie not playing as widescreen

triplej, let me get back to you on that. I'm doing something right now and appreciate your input. I could swear that the first time I watched American Gangster it was in wide screen and when my son came home from college we popped it in and it was full screen.I didn't read every single post but I have a question and a possible answer.

Re: Movie not playing as widescreen

Your welcome and keep in mind if you watched it on aregular tv it would be letterboxed but on your 16x9 tv it won't be this I promise. now your 2:35:1 film will have a letterbox on your 16x9 tv.triplej, let me get back to you on that. Re: Movie not playing as widescreen

 Well, this sorta sucks.

One of my all time favorite movies, Pans Labyrinth, says on the box

presented in a format preserving the 1:85:1 aspect ratio of it's theatrical exhibition. Enhanced for widescreen TVs

I watched it on my 58" JVC with the black lines at top/bottom. Not so now. My only options are WIDE and ZOOM and wide appears to have lost some of the movie on both sides of the screen, looks full screen. Hard to explain.

'Munich' is 2:35:1 and has the black borders (is this what "letterbox" is?), so okay with that.

"There will be blood" it only says "widescreen version enhanced for 16.9 TVs...so okay there.

"American Gangster"...anamorphic widescreen 1:85:1....appears now only WIDE and ZOOMED. And I could swear I watched this the first time and it had the black borders, top and bottom.

 Confusing.Comment

1:85:1 should fill the entire screen with no black bars.My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx
