    TV shows resurrected/re-popularized by syndication?

I know Family Guy is a huge one. It was canceled twice before having its current run. DVD sales and syndication on Cartoon Network are the cause of that.

Futurama seems to be doing something similar on Comedy Central.

I kind of thought it would happen to Scrubs, being that it seems fairly popular on Comedy Central, but I guess that wasn't the case with poor ratings for season 7.

I kind of remember there being a big one on Comedy Central a few years ago. Perhaps the show wasn't resurrected, but it was re-popularized. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

And does anyone know of any other examples?

Ren and Stimpy was originally on Nickelodeon I believe, and then it was kicked off and picked up by VH1 or something. But that was obviously for different reasons.

It was picked up by Spike and was much grosser without any of the (very little) subtlety of the original. It just seemed the producers were cashing in and didn't put up their A game.

Anyways, the best example of what this thread is about is Star Trek. It only lasted 4 seasons on NBC and they canceled it. Needless to say syndication made it REALLY popular and it eventually got so big that Paramount was even going to do a new series with the original cast but they shifted it to the big screen and then in '87 we got TNG. The Star Trek brand has become known worldwide even in countries where there's very few TVs.

        Scrubs.

I think Comedy Central made Scrubs as popular as it is today. I had never heard of the show before CC started airing re-runs, and now I don't miss a week (that is, when NBC actually decides to air an episode).

NBC doesnt have Scrubs anymore, thank God. They did everything the could to kill that show.

Ed was always good in syndication, but TBS stopped airing it.

I heard a rumor a while back about a remake of Coach, but that obviously never came to fruition. It is a shame that show isn't even on in syndication anymore.

That show used to be on USA at like 5 AM no?

It truly went downhill when Hayden went to the Pros with the Orlando Breakers.

It used to be on then, I had it DVR'd. According to Wiki it stopped airing on January 1, I'd presume because the syndication agreement expired. I was so annoyed, I wanted to catch the finale again and for whatever reason they aired the first of the three parts then never the next two, it just went back to the first episode. It is slowly but surely coming out on DVD though.

It still annoys me Florida State needs to share their 1993 National Championship with Minnesota State. Charlie Ward and company would have easily mopped the floor with those schmucks.
