I voted yes but it's not really the right question. Queen of R&B? Most definitely, in every way, shape and form. Queen of hip hop? Don't really see how we can get there. She drop a few versus in "What's the 411?" but we really can't count that (and if we could then that definitely wouldn't give her the crown). There have been a lot of great female hip hop artists. Queen? Mc Lyte, Queen Latifah, Eve, Lil Kim (btw, I don't think all of them deserve the title, just throwing some names out there).

If the question is about the combination of hip hop AND R&B, then my vote would go to Lauren Hill. She's gone a little nuts so we may never hear from her again, but she was at the top of both charts consistently. I'd even still say she's more talented than Mary in just R&B but nowhere near enough on the resume to even put her in the discussion there.

Thing with Hip-Hop being part of the title, I've thought anyway, was because of how often she worked with MCs. A lot of her memorable songs feature rappers.

            I voted yes, btw.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying (and actually I said the same thing about Lauren). It's a stretch to include MJB in hip hop. Even the idea that she's worked with a lot of hip hop artists isn't that strong b/c almost all of that has been on remixes. She's the R&B queen, no doubt about it, and Lauren doesn't even come into the discussion (nor does anyone else IMO, but Beyonce might after some more time in the game). Lauren Hill is the only one though, who has successfully produced hits both singing R&B and dropping hip hop lyrics, as well as mixing them together, alone or with other artists. Taking the question literally, she has no competition b/c no one else has even tried on a serious level (Floetry?).

I just can't call MJB hip hop but that's not a knock against her. BTW, she's pretty much worked with everyone. She's got songs where Biggie did a hook, Wyclef is singing a duet, Bono is with her remaking a U2 song, and with George Michael remaking a Stevie song. She's amazing... just wouldn't put her in the hip hop category.

She's the queen of modern day R&B (not hip-hop tho) but we all know who the real queen is

...and if you have to ask then you don't know your music.

Yeah, I personally don't see that happening anytime soon. Well, if more of stuff is like Dangerously In Love then perhaps...

Doesn't have to happen any time soon. Think about it... Mary was about her age when she got in the game and now she's got what, 20 years on her? Beyonce can really sing which is more than you can say for alot of others. Sounds strange but that actually goes a long way. I see her making hits for as long as she wants. She's also not a horrible actress so her face will be out there for a while. I can see her taking it.

But the title is definitely Mary's for now.

For those mentioning all of MJB's songs with hip hop artists, how many are originals? Most of the ones you all are talking about are remakes of songs that were already hits and then redone with someone else to make it bigger in the club. She also did quite a few hooks and smaller roles when she wasn't putting out albums (and most likely strung out with your favorite member of Jodeci). Honestly, she's partnered up with all types of people.
