I don't see how someone can say she is the queen of RnB but not Hip Hop. Her style has been a mixture of both.

Mary J., Queen of Hip Hop Soul.

Yeah I was loving it, what was her pseudonym on that track? Can't find it anywhere. Didn't she put out more music under that name?

Not really. Feel free to hit up some videos. She's been around so long, it's possible I'm not remembering everything but I've been an MJB fan since day one and I've heard all of her albums (where the original songs are, not the remixes). I'm sure she's a hip hop head but she does not make hip hop songs. What classifies her style as hip hop at all? Singing on a track with a rapper? Having a rapper do a verse in one of her songs? Being accepted amongst hip hop artists? I honestly can't see how she CAN be considered hip hop. Would that mean other artists that have paired with rappers (on the originals btw) are considered hip hop too like Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Monica, Brian McKnight, John Legend... R.E.M., Aerosmith, etc, etc.

She birthed the style with her first album What's the 411? with songs like:

                    Real Love

                    You Don't Have To Worry

And many artists followed in suit. You don't have to have a rapper on your track to make a hip hop oriented sound.

Can't really agree. I do agree that you don't need to have a rapper on the track to be hip hop but those songs are R&B. Real Love became a club hit (which doesn't necessarily make it hip hop either) after it was remixed with Biggie. The original is just a really good R&B song. Same with You Don't Have to Worry.

Maybe I'm not understanding exactly what is "hip hop" about those songs, but you also have to consider that hip hop as it is today didn't even exist when Mary was in her prime. At that time hip hop was synonymous with rap. It's evolved 10fold over the years, but even looking at Mary's entire body of work, there aren't as many songs that would even be considered hip hop by today's standards. But it sounds like we have different definitions of what that is.
