Plasma vs LCD
I'm looking into finally getting an HDTV in the next month but I have no idea what kind to get. From what I've seen plasma's look better(to me) but I don't know about burn in. Are there any real advantages or disadvantages between the two or is it just personal preference?Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Tags: None -

Re: Plasma vs LCD
For the money, DLP is the best. First decide how much space you have and how much you want to spend. Then start looking. Plasma don't really have the burn in any more, some LCDs have some angle or black color issues, and they all have glare issues if you have too many lights on or in the wrong spot. Right now its really about preference and what you think looks good.Comment

Probably between $500-$800 and I'll be primarily using it for gaming.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: Plasma vs LCD
I'm going to have to say LCD, especially for gaming. Newer plasmas are getting better at not having burn ins... but they still get them, so I wouldn't risk it. If you're gonna play Madden all day, I wouldn't want the new score bug to be permanently etched into the screen ya know.
I believe LCDs are cheaper, since it is an older technology.
DLPs used to have an issue with gaming lag, where a button press would be lagged to what you see on screen. I'm not sure if this is fixed now, but it was a big deal when DLPs first game out years ago.
Since gaming is important, pay attention to the refresh rate for the TV you're getting... Fast motions will be less blurry with a faster rate.Comment

Re: Plasma vs LCD
For gaming and your price range, I'd go with a 720P LCD (insert Vizio plug). Even with the newer plasmas, you need to "break them in" for the first 100-150 hours. LCDs are also better in brightly lit rooms.
Comes down to preference really. I have a LCD, but plasmas have a beautiful picture...especially for movie watching. If you do go plasma, I'd highly recommend a Panasonic.Comment

Re: Plasma vs LCD
ive seen alot of hdtv's as i work at a cable company, and nothing has a better/brighter picture than a sammy dlp.
You just cant mount them to a wall, you have to change the bulb once every 16 months or so, and the picture isnt as bright while watching at an angle (as its a projection screen)Comment

Re: Plasma vs LCD
DLP's are def. the best buy but if you're narrowingyour choices to Plasma vs. LCD you have to choose LCD. Plasma's finite lifespan comparative to cost is just a dealbreaker IMO. Not to mention you don't want to have Plasma to play games on.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Plasma vs LCD
Your budget sounds ripe for an LCD Jmood.
As stated earlier plasma's have very vibrant colors, very rich and aren't really the best for gaming because of the burn in issues. You will have to wait until you break the tv in for about 100-150 hours.
I played hitman when i first got my plasma and when i stopped i could still see the lines in the tv and felt like i ruined the tv... which I didn't but i didnt know about the break in time... I must say though that its great for tv and movies because the picture is awesome.
LCD's are great for gaming, you don't have to worry about burning anything in.. they don't take up much space, the colors are usually great unless you have a crap model like a Westinghouse.
Honestly with what you have you can come away with a great looking LCD tv if you look in the right places.Comment

For some reason I completely forgot about DLP's. I'll look around to see if there are any that I would be able to get.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
