Same here. I have an LCD. It gets the job donequite nicelly. I kind of wish I had gone with a plasma as the one my in-laws bought looks better than mine.

A friend of mine has a DLP. It looks very good when sitting right in front of it but as soon as you view from any kind of angle the image seems much darker. I don't like that about DLPs.

No I don't, but you guys make a good point, if it lasts 11 or 12 years then what difference does it make really

I made my purchase today...42" Panasonic Plasma. Like I have explained before, it was between this and a Toshiba Regza LCD. The Panasonic looked better in the showroom, it has gotten good comments from many people on these boards, and my other research has shown the Panasonic is at the top of the plasma list. I had a plasma before and liked it very much so when I saw the Panny, the decision was easy. Bonus was that I got it on sale for around $1,100. So far tonight it looks pretty darn sharp.

Depends on what you're looking for.

Frankly, with a good calibration, I don't think anyone will be upset with the type of HDTV they got. I love my DLP, but I think I'd also be very happy with a Plasma or LCD or LCoS.

I know, I was being sarcastic..LOL... The guy said DLP was the best, it just seemed he said that without doping homework. I have a rear projection Sony SXRD 50" that is LCOS, but to tell the truth, I'm starting not to like my set anymore, I wish I had LCD over Rear Projection. TV's lose value quickly, I could sell mine I would, but I won't get good value for it, I don't think.

Exactly. Just as I said, when the day comes you can afford to get a HDTV that size, it's all good man

Congrats on the purchase. My dad chose the Panny plasma over a similarly priced LCD. The only tiny nitpick I had with it was the fact that it didn't have PIP/PBP....everything else was great including the PQ.

Plasmas have more natural skintones, IMHO.

Yeah, that is true, and I realized that after having the tv for a day, but the picture quality more than makes up for it.

So, Jmood, have you made a choice yet?

Nope I haven't made a choice yet. The LCD's are cheaper and have a nice picture but I love the way the plasma's look.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

                                Re: Plasma vs LCD

I was in the same boat last year when I moved out of my parent's house after graduating college. They have a plasma that I got real used to watching TV on and occassional gaming on and I loved it. Never have had any issues with burn-in. I wanted to get an HD set and ended up with a Toshiba LCD model.

With my experience with both, I will say the plasma set is the overall best picture quality. Flesh tones look great and the whole image is vibrant. Games look excellent as well but I find for games and CG movies the LCD looks just as good. LCD looks great as well, don't get me wrong, but if money is no object and you want the best go with plasma. I went with LCD because it was, at the time, close to a grand cheaper and I didn't think the cost was worth the slight upgrade. If I had to go back and re-do my purchase I'd probably still get the LCD. Just make sure you get one with multiple HDMI inputs. The one I have has 3 which has been more than enough (I just have cable and PS3 hooked up via HDMI, Wii via component) so far.
