Top 5:
5) Horrorpops - Kiss Kiss Kill Kill
If you're into pyschobilly/rockabilly, I definitely recommend this one. You wouldn't think Sweden would produce a band who knew rockabilly quite this well, so I was surprised at how great they are. The vocals are retro, 80s female artist vibe.
4) Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Sh*t Gold
I think a lot of the guys on here have already heard this album, so there's not much more to say other than Ant continues to amaze me with his beats and Slug just sounds truly inspired on the album. Plus, I love the atmosphere of the album - it reminds me of Godlovesugly.
3) The Black Keys - Attack & Release
The team-up with Danger Mouse worked exceptionally well. At first I was wondering exactly how the two would mess together, but the team produced a very organic mixture of progressive blues-rock.
2) The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
This is everything I expected their debut album to be - full of country, blues, and rock n roll with tons of great hooks and fantastic instrumentation thrown in for good measure.
1) Drive-By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark
DBT's second best (or tied for second best) album behind Southern Rock Opera. Its a magnificent piece of work, especially since Jason Isbell had left the band last year to pursue a solo career. Everything that is great about country can be found on this album.
I was also hoping to get some impressions on a couple albums I have my eyes on to pick up sometime in the near future...
