throw me in the "first glance" club that thought it said Jay-Z was killed.

i guess a rapper and killed in the same sentence makes you assume the worst.

The money he made off selling Rocawear and Rocafella and the Live Nation and 40/40 deals have him currently at #6 on the Forbes celebrity list. 50 is #26 on that list.
And between them, 50 has the 2 highest selling albums and his came at the height of bootlegging. Jay Z has 6 top 10 singles from 10 albums. 50 has 8 from 3 albums, and if you count How We Do, Hate it or Love it, and On Fire, he has 11 top 10 singles. Jay Z has 1 top 5 single. 50 has 7 plus How We Do and Hate it or Love it. None of Jay Z's people went platinum. Buck, Banks, and Game all went plat.

I don't really understand the celebrity rankings, but 50 is #3 in terms of cash money, a little less than doubling Jay Z.

So Jay decided to open his show with a corny song made by Oasis. I like that song though.. I thought that was hilarious.

Of course they weren't calling him a legend then. Not like they do now anyway. He was still alive and only been in the game for several years. I don't recall anyone campaigning for Pac to be called the GOAT after he died the way Diddy did for Biggie. Also, no one that I've ever met who called him the GOAT did so strictly on the basis of his lyrical skills.Part of their "legend" is the circumstances in which they died. How you remember people talking about Pac back in 95-96 is probably the same way I remember people talking about Biggie at around the same time, or the same way people were talking about Jay-Z around 97-99.

Ain't nobody calling 50 a legend either (except maybe his #1 fan, RandyMoss84), but if he had been killed after say after beg for Mercy, you can bet he would have been considered that by a lot of people. That's just how it goes.

You kind of agreed with me in a round about way. You dont become a top 5 or GOAT candidate because of things people think you would have done if you would still be alive. Thats why Big and Pac arent top 5 to me. Just because thats the way it goes for most people doesnt mean thats what it means for me.

My point is people call Jay, Nas, Rakim, KRS, Em and others legends now and it would be the same if they died tomorrow. Its a shame Big and Pac didnt live long enough to earn legend status from their work.

That's in a year where 50 toured all over the world, dropped an album and cashed out his Vitamin Water deal. Thats also in a year where Jay didnt tour (except for 6 shows in small venues), dropped an album in album in December) and not counting his 150 million Live Nation deal or the 204 million sale of Rocawear. If Forbes would have counted the Rocawear deal alone...he would have made 50 mil more than 50 did in 2007.

I think Noel Gallagher was asked to comment on Glastonbury's unusual slow sales this year (it usually sells out in hours supposedly), when he went on about how he thought it was wrong that hip hop was being a headliner in what's normally a guitar driven rock n' roll festival and that the festival "was losing it's way". I think he also threw in there about jay-z not being a big seller in the uk but I might have just read that on the bbc.

"Not wonderment," he said when asked if he was surprising even himself with his hot hand in Virginia's 108-87 victory against Gonzaga on Wednesday night, when he scored a career-best 37 points. "I was just wondering why they didn't play more `D.

Jay is the GOAT and no I'm not a stan. In fact I used to hate on the dude until someone finally put me on to him and I went back and really listened. His last few albums have been less than stellar but dude was the GOAT before the Black Album IMO. Of course everyone has different tastes, but I don't think there is any denying his lyrical skill.

                    And yes, he killed Glastonbury.

I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...
