I cannot recommend this Hayes Carll album enough - Trouble in Mind has been getting a ton of plays, I love it. Great album with a nice bit of variety and a lot of wit and cleverness. Everybody needs to listen to She Left Me For Jesus.

Also, I got The Steeldrivers in the mail yesterday. While I enjoy bluegrass instrumentation, traditional bluegrass vocals have never really gelled me with. The Steeldrivers are different - they're very much a bluegrass band, but their vocals are country-soul/blues through and through and I'm loving it. I definitely recommend it the album and specificially the songs Drinkin' Dark Whiskey, Sticks That Made Thunder, and Midnight Train to Memphis.
I'll have to check into these guys, I am really interested into the Steeldrivers now, I like bluegrass, its fun to just sit there and listen to the bluegrass station on my cable box because alot of the songs transistion well into the next song, even if they are different artists.

I tell you what though, has anyone heard that song Oklahoma Breakdown by Stony LaRue. Seeing as I live in Oklahoma I listen to it all the time because they play almost every day.

and for you bluegrass guys check out David Peterson, I heard him while listening to an Winamp bluegrass station and really liked his song 1946, you can go to his myspace page and check it out

Every city has at least one...we have 2 country stations in Vegas.

I have been away from my radio for a while...anybody have a short list of some good more recent country songs?

Well I live in Oklahoma so we have 4 station, but one I can't get too well because it is almost halfway across the state.

As for the recent songs. check out the duet of Kenny Chesney and Reba McEntire with their song "Every Other Weekend" its really good.

Seeing that I live in Oklahoma and Stillwater is the Red Dirt capital of the world, I'm really starting to like that genre of music. Stoney LaRue and Cross Canadian Ragweed are just a few that fit in that group.

Cross Canadian Ragweed is seriously the ****. Ive seen them live a crapload of times and they are one of the best live bands out there imo. I saw them a lot when they were first starting out, and played around Austin a lot in little dives with about 20 people in the crowd and they still played their ***es off.

The crowds have certainly changed. It's mostly packed houses for them now. Still though, not enough people know who they are. That is a great band.

How are the first two Hayes Carll albums compared to Trouble in Mind?

HW3's been growing on me a lot lately. I'll have to pick up his first album before his next one drop in October. I think the whole thing between him and his dad/Kid Rock is kind of funny and sad at the same time.

Trouble in Mind is really good imo. Ive got that one and "Little Rock".

"Little Rock" isnt as good overall imo, but i like that album too. It's got one of his best songs imo called "Down the Road Tonight"
