From a pure production stand-point it may be my favorite album of the year so far from top to bottom.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Do they have to have some sort of Basketball reference in the song?I want to put together a playlist to shoot basketball to and am trying to come up with any song that specifically mentions, is about basketball in some sense, or related to basketball in some way.
Anything come to mind from you guys?
So far I have Space Jam s/t and a bunch of random songs that use basketball metaphors. Then of course a bunch of songs that are just good basketball tempo songs.
I was gonna say to just throw some Kendrick, Jay Rock, Cole, Meek or Nipsey on and you’ll be good.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Honestly was just looking for songs that were about basketball or referenced a lot. If I go with one-off references and one-liners I'd be looking at everything. Hell, I could just throw on the latest from Big Krit and Gibbs and that'd set me for a couple hours.
Speaking of which - how ya'll gonna leave out Krit's Layup?

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Most of the music I like from KRIT isn't stuff I'd want to do play a sport to, I didn't even think of him.
The only playlist I could make based on concept is drug dealing, or being poor lol. I'm sure Cole had a hoop dreams song on one of his mixtapes. Dame Lillard is about to drop an album, just put that on repeat.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Usually it's just me at the park so I'm just shooting jump shots for the most part. Nothing too aggressive going on on the court.
Big Krit has some pump me up songs, though. Confetti, Learned from Texas, Keep the Devil Off, Life, King of the South, etc. Sure, he's not the most uptempo guy around, but he certainly hits at times. I guess he's more of an entrance music guy than on-court music?

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
It's more about aggression and noise to me than tempo, I want chaotic beats or anger in my hype songs. The songs I'm thinking of from him are more stuff like the My Subs, My Trunk, Mt Olympus is probably the best example because he sounds so pissed off. Learned from Texas has good energy in the second verse but the first doesn't have much. Anything with gospel backing is a no go. But I prefer his smoother songs over anything.
Going back through Cole's stuff to rebuild that playlist now, heard Homecoming again and am wondering if that's where Cordae got his inspiration from Bad Idea from or if he'd heard that song somewhere else.
Sacrifices video, Saba is high on my list right now, dude is great.

The line about the hand me down skinny jeans and wanting more cash in pocket has been bugging me ever since I heard it. I swear I heard it somewhere else, but of course I have no idea where.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Something I've been thinking about lately as I listen to some 90s classics, but do you guys think the masterpieces of the past will remain masterpieces or will generational distances change their standing?

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Hard to say, they'll probably change. I think the closest thing we have to the Beatles is Rakim and people already skip over him to talk about Pac and Biggie. The next generation will probably erase them with Jay and Em, rinse and repeat. I hardly ever hear about the 80s guys, Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy, Kool Moe Dee, etc.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I feel like the 90s will settle down and form the foundation for "classic rap" kind of similar to 60-70s did for rock/classic rock. There does seem to be a lot more reverence for those guys than the older generation from the 80s just going off of features. Don't really hear anybody name-dropping KRS One, Chuck D, Rakim, etc like you said. And honestly I wasn't even thinking about those guys when this thought popped into my head so I guess it's already happened to an extent.
Personally some of those albums were/are hard to get into since the production can be really, really dated.
Listening to AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted This Morning. Just kind of curious to see how time has and will treat this and other albums of it's era.
