Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I've been trying with no avail to get into J. Cole.
I have head his collabs with Wale and Drake, and I like both tracks [mostly because of the samples used] so hopefully I will have his mixtape in rotation.Comment

Joell's should be sick. Hopefully it's his laid back fun loving side and not his slaughterhouse sideComment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Second go 'round on this new Kanye and I'd give it a 8.5. I'm definitely feeling "Gorgeous" the most out of all the songs on there and the track with John Legend on it as well. If I hadn't already heard half of the songs on there already, I'd give it a 9-9.5 and I'd put this album up there with Late Registration, which I think is Kanye's best album.#RespectTheCultureComment

BlueNGold, I didn't give it a fair listen because J Cole is so off putting to me. But maybe I'll get into his new stuff and then start to accept his older stuff.

Mine is almost done downloading. Took like 20 minutes though, which is a little strange because usually my downloads aren't that long, but it's legit.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

The album is ****ing awesome regardless of the fact I heard most of it before getting the complete package. It's like he took everything that was right with all 4 of his albums and meshed it all together into this one great album. I love pretty much every track. Gorgeous, Hell of a Life and Blame Game are my 3 favorite songs.
There's only 4 issues I have with this album....
1) All of the Lights. Mainly the Fergie verse. That was terrible and should have never been put on the song. I don't know why Drake was cut out of the song in place of that. Also I'm not sure I like Rihanna on the hook. I preferred the unfinished leaked version with Drake.
2) Monster & So Appalled shouldn't be on the album. Like AOTL, they aren't bad songs but I just think these 2 songs are the weak/soft spot of the album. It would have been better to have Mama's Boyfriend and Chain Heavy instead and then make Monster and So Appalled bonus tracks. It also didn't help that there wasn't any noticeable changes to either of those songs.
3) The hook on Runaway should have stayed the same. Instead Kanye added people singing along in the background and has them cheering at the end. It's a minor thing but it ruins the feel of the song IMO. Should have just kept it the same.
4) Lost in the World. WTF happened here? Usually songs like this aren't my thing, but the original version that leaked and was in the Runaway movie grew on me. For some reason, Kanye changed up the drums and now the song just sounds stupid. Another change that didn't need to be made and something that should have stayed the same.
Despite that stuff, the wait for this album was worth it. A few months ago I was worried it wouldn't be that great, but Kanye did his thing with this album and did it well. Not many people can make an album like this when it comes to the sound, creativity, quality, etc.
I'd give MBDTF a 9/10. Not as good as Recovery (although that might have changed if I was like Streets and had only heard Power before listening to the album), but it comes a close second and just beats out Sir Lucious Left Foot for me.
2010 has been pretty solid for rap albums. We still have a few more left too with T.I. and Jeezy hopefully dropping their stuff in December.
Time to listen to my man J. Cole's tape now...Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.
