I still don't know when this all of a sudden became popular among "my people" because we used to be the same group clowning others for dressing like it but NOW it's acceptable?

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
My feeling is every sub-genre of hip hop music has its place. I will say that skinny jeans, snapbacks, and dressing like a nerd on purpose need to go tho.

I don't care what anybody says and I'm a huge "hip-hop head" like alot of other cats in this thread, but this joint right here is bumpin. I cant stop playing it. The track is dope and made me look into some of his other stuff. Checked out "I'm Gay" and its got a few nice tracks on it as well. He may put out 95% trash, but he has a few gems as well. Surprised the hell outta meComment

I can't explain the hipster invasion of hip hop or just about every other culture. All I can tell you is that I find it incredibly annoying.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I just feel that a lot of old heads and hipsters equate "real" hip-hop to 80s/90s, New York-style, "boom-bap" chronicles of "the struggle". The term is used to demean the preferences of the youth/masses. The guy who I quoted posted those kinds of artists, so I thought that's what he meant when he said, "real hip-hop".
I like a lot of NY-bases rappers who reached fame in the 90s; it just bugs me when people say the new school stuff is not "real" hip-hop.
They have their own movements going on and I'm all for it. As far the "real hip hop" thing one thing you have to understand is (and I don't know how you old you are) before the game blew up you really had to have skills to get on. We came up on deep lyrical content. Half of these dudes (NY included) probably wouldn't have made the cut with a Rakim, G Rap, KRS, Cube or Kane in their prime.
Again this is no knock b/c I understand the game is in different place now and there isn't a premium placed on lyrics.PSN: DoubleLGetsBusy

I don't know how many of you guys listen to A$AP Rocky (I myself don't) but I have mad respect for this dude. I hope he does well in his career. Check out the vids of him meeting his namesake The God Rakim...

I'm just comparing it to the style before what's going on now.
I agree skinnies are ridiculous, they're fading away though, outside of the kids in high school of course.Comment

I feel you and I definately respect your post and you do have some very valid points. I'm 36 so I'm one of those old heads who was bred and born in NY. I don't knock the kids doin their thing nowadys b/c they could be out trying to tap my pockets but I also understand what they're doing isn't meant for me.

Hip hop/rap was never about lyrics..Dudes were saying jibberish, toasting and saying repeatitive chants from the start...Thats how it got the name "rap"
