Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me get pointed in the direction of some new artists.
Basically I'm stuck in the 90's in terms of rap. I love the way rappers back then rapped. My favorite rappers are/were Big L and Big Pun, I love punclines and horrocore type of rap.
My favorite current group/rapper is Jedi Mind Tricks. I like there gritty style, and of course there punchlines. I'm also looking forward to Vinnie Paz's God of the Serengeti and Jus Allah's MMA albums.
I just want to be able to listen to some current rappers and be able to look forward to future releases and stuff.
What I don't like is Lil wayne, drake, nicki minaj stuff. And I don't like wiz khalifa, mac miller rap about getting high and how they rap.
If anyone has suggestions about current rappers who rap with punchlines, and not about how they are going to get high or go to the club please give me some names.

Slaughterhouse - Welcome To: Our House (album snippets)

Sounds like a contender for my recycling bin hall of fame. Too bad. See what happens when the full album drops, but it's looking like only a handful of joints will be making the cut. Knew Eminem being involved was a bad idea.
1. The Slaughter (Intro)
2. Our House (Feat. Eminem & Skylar Grey) (Prod. Alex Da Kid)
3. Coffin (Feat. Busta Rhymes) (Prod. by Hit-Boy)
4. Throw That (Feat. Eminem) (Prod. T-Minus)
5. Hammer Dance (Prod. araabMUZIK)
6. Get Up (Prod. No. I.D.)
7. My Life (Feat. Cee Lo Green) (Prod. STREETRUNNER & Raymond “SAROM” Diaz)
8. We Did It (Skit) (Prod. Eminem)
9. Flip A Bird (Prod. Black Key Beats and Zukhan)
10. Throw It Away (Feat. Swizz Beatz) (Prod. Mr. Porter)
11. Rescue Me (Feat. Skylar Grey) (Prod. Alex Da Kid)
12. Frat House (Prod. T-Minus)
13. Goodbye (Prod. Boi-1da)
14. Park It Sideways (Prod. Kane Beatz)
15. Die (Prod. Mr. Porter)
16. Our Way (Outro) (Prod. Boi-1da)Last edited by areobee401; 08-15-2012, 04:59 PM.Comment

A few new punchline rappers:
Earl Sweatshirt (older stuff is horrorcore so you get the best of both worlds there)
Joey Bada$$ (and CJ Fly, everyone was good on the Suspect posse cut, but that's all I've bothered to check out)
Ab-Soul
Zeroh
Los
Vince Staples (disclaimer: very emo)
Ab-Soul, Blu, and Vic Mensa (Straight Up EP) are three guys I listen to a lot who have that 90s sound on a lot of tracks, Blu especially.Last edited by Fly3; 08-15-2012, 04:39 PM.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Firstly, are you interested in trap music? That's mainly what I listen to, but there are a few other artists who I have in heavy rotation.
A few new punchline rappers:

I'll check them out, hopefully some of them work for me
And I don't listen too much trap, but I'd appreciate if you gave me your favorite artists from there alsoChicago Bulls

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Chief Keef probably had the mixtape of the year with Back From the Dead. Everything he goes in on is straight heat. Not a deep or technical lyricist, but his songs will hype you up. Same goes for everyone else in GBE, Lil Reese probably being the best technically.
Also, check out RVIXDR KLVN. Yung Simmie is the next big thing in trap music, and SGP is a terrific producer. Florida ***** Mentality is one of the best songs I've heard this year. Remember, this is trap, so don't expect it to blow your mind lyrically.
Spenzo is another trappish type I jam, but he's more lyrical and actually attempts to be good technically on some tracks.
I've also enjoyed 2 of Lil Mouse's tracks. Only 13 years old, btw.
King Louie, A$AP Rocky (disclaimer: raps a lot about weed, more pop than trap), just throwing names out there.Last edited by Fly3; 08-15-2012, 04:42 PM.Comment

Grafh
Los
Childish Gambino
Pusha T
Fabolous
Lloyd Banks
Those are the ones that immediately come to mind, that group is also very clever with wordplay too. I also don't think Grafh or Los can make decent songs to save their lives, but they destroy other beats and freestyles.Last edited by Hassan Darkside; 08-15-2012, 10:28 PM.[NYK|DAL|VT]
