Just going back to the "what got you into hip-hop" discussion, my brother was probably the main reason I listened to it. Not sure what drew him to it, but he was always watching music videos (when they showed them a ton) and I remember I ended up liking an artist because of the strange as hell video he made for the song. He was my favorite artist at the time because of how weird he was, but not any longer. I'm sure you remember this video:

I remember trying to get my mom to allow me to buy the Marshall Mathers LP. To her credit she entertained the idea long enough for me to print out lyrics and let her read them. Of course I wasn't as savvy back then so I just printed out lyrics to the song I wanted to listen to as opposed to reading each song and picking the least explicit. **** did not fly.

Thankfully I had some friends looking out by burning me CDs.

That was me, only with Nelly's "Country Grammar." Found a song with no swears except for the n-word, showed it to her...made sure to point out that "I would never say that word" and she bought it for me, LOL.

After that, the floodgates opened and Eminem was purchased. Now she likes Em as much as I do.

I remember bumping Jagged Little Thrill and Sisqo while playing hoops with neighbors. We were ballin damnit.

Like I posted earlier my cousin was the person who introduced me to hip hop music. Because of that the west coast sound was my first real introduction into the genre. Artists like Ice T, The Pharcyde, Ice Cube, Digital Underground and DJ Quik are the ones I remember liking the most at the time.

It took neighborhood friends older brothers to put me on to the east coast sound. I remember ATCQ, and Leaders of the New School are who I remember being popular with the older kids, so that's what us youngins listened to.

TINICUM TWP., Pa. - August 29, 2012 (WPVI) -- Rap star Beanie Sigel was arrested following a traffic stop early Wednesday morning on Interstate 95 in Delaware County.

It was around 3:15 a.m. when Pennsylvania State Troopers noticed a tan Ford Fusion following another vehicle too closely and swerving out of its lane of travel.

The Troopers pulled the Ford over and approached the vehicle. The driver, identified as Gerald Andrews of Philadelphia, was order out of the vehicle and a check for weapons revealed several prescription bottles and a small amount of marijuana.

Troopers then focused their attention to the passenger, identified as Dwight E Grant, also known as famous Philadelphia rapper "Benie Sigel". Police searched Grant and found approximately $4,650 cash, a bottle of codeine syrup with a scratched off label, and several prescription pills wrapped in plastic bags located in a cigarette pack.
Both men were detained, and during a search of the vehicle Troopers found a firearm located in the center console. Andrews and Grant are both convicted felons and not allowed to possess a firearm.

Andrews and Grant were transported to Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Media to be processed and arraigned.

Driving with a unlicensed burner, on lean, with drugs in the car, on one of the busiest interstates in the country. Guess he couldn't wait a couple more months before his jail sentence started. How stupid can you be.

I still **** with his music. Beans was a beast.

No mention of the A$AP tape? Coke and White Bitches Chapter 2 was terrific, specifically Danny Brown's verse. Downloading the tape now.

Don't know why(and I'm not trying to be racist) but just from reading your posts in this thread specifically and then reading this, I would've pictured you as looking like my man Jamal from House Party 2(assuming you're White obviously) LOL.

Lol. This made me remember the time my grandma was a heavy fan of the DMX song "lose my mind" until the day i went to walmart and bought the unedited version of the album (back before Walmart started only carrying the non cursing version of songs). Her and my momma heard all the "suck my d..." lyrics that they made me give the CD to my father.

                            Yes and no.

Where I grew up and having friends who were/are involved in rap music had its effect on the type of music I listen to, and my appreciation for the culture.

Can't say Jamal and me ever shared the same fashion sense.
