Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Never mind, found it.
Nice to hear that he didn't use the accent on all of them. Looking forward to listening through it a couple times.
Underground is insane. That song definitely brings back flashbacks of old school Em.Last edited by cubsfan203; 05-07-2009, 06:50 PM.Fan of....

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Alright, listened through the album once. Underground is by far the best track. Honestly there were only 3 that stuck out, the rest were ok but might grow on me after a couple more listens. Beautiful and Insane are the other two that I liked. I'll probably actually buy the album just to support the guy, but I hope the 2nd Relapse will be more songs like Underground.Last edited by cubsfan203; 05-07-2009, 11:16 PM.Fan of....

Beautiful, My Mom, Underground, Insane, and Deja Vu stand out so far. I haven't really given it a real good listen.
I'll buy it as well, because I like supporting the dudes I like listening to.Last edited by cjonesfan921; 05-07-2009, 10:54 PM.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Of all the artists I listen to, Em probably needs my money the least. I'd rather support Royce, Joe, Lupe, Nas, etc. but I digress...
Overall, I am not feeling Em's album (save: Beautiful and Underground which are both insanely good). I think that I definitely need to give it a few more spins though. It seems like those two songs are the only ones where he doesn't use that weird accent. The album reminds me alot of Encore which isn't good.
I think my expectations were too high. I heard about a Em/Royce/Primo collabo (Keys To The City), a Jay collabo (My Soliloquy), more dedication to Proof, etc. Instead we got this. Now, the thing that gives me hope is that in the last Skit Em says he's dropping TWO albums, so maybe the second will have all the stuff I was anticipating.
I'm just starting Cam's album and it's actually pretty good. Silky (No Homo) and Never Ever are early standouts.Last edited by Streets; 05-08-2009, 02:30 AM.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I'm really likin relapse after my first two listens. I feel like Em's main objective on this album was to lead with his lyrics rather then beats. It kind of reminds of SSLP where his beats were good but the star of the show were the lyrics.
Its definitely a different sound because after SSLP he always had the hard hitting beats where the beat moved you and the lyrics rode along with it. I think Em wanted more simple beats where he could let his voice and lyrics shine rather then the beat.
Songs like Underground or Beautiful are like songs you would have found on MMLP so that's why those standout. While songs like Insane, 3 am, Hello, or Stay Wide Awake are more on the lyrical side where he's movin you with his words rather the beat. Not only that but he's less emotional on his songs so they don't grab your attention as much.
Only problem with this style is his voice is more pronounced, so when he uses that voice that everyone seems to hate you can really hear it. Luckily for me the voice doesn't irritate me at all.
Overall the album has been pretty good to me but I can see why people may not feel it because it's definitely a much different sound then the MMLP or Eminem Show.
I think for those who are listenin to this album just let the lyrics guide you don't go into every song looking for a great beat. The beat will come along once you let the lyrics sink in. 3 AM and Same Song & Dance are great examples of the style he's using for most of the album.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Streets, I agree he probably doesn't need my support but he has provided me with great music and is one of my favorites so I just feel for $10-15, it's not much to give for that.
Honestly, Beautiful is one of the better songs Em has ever made. Lyrically, it is incredible. It shows that he hasn't lost anything, he just needs the motivation to not **** around with that sutpid accent ish. I think/hope Relapse 2 will be different.
Jano, I agreel lyrically it's still there. The accent just takes away a lot for me. I wish he had just dumped that.
It definitely surpasses Encore, which shouldn't take much, but not on the level of the first 3.
Speaking of Royce, I can't freaking wait for July and Street Hop. I'm dieing to hear the full version for We Outta Here, and just everything else he has in store. Royce has been killing tracks lately. He always has, but seems he's in a different zone right now. BE3 is around the corner as well.
Also, according to Budden, the Slaughterhouse album is coming out September, the latest. Also, he says they are talking with labels at the moment, or something like that. Good stuff.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Is Eminem seriously putting 3AM out as a single? I don't see anyway this song gets rotation anywhere.
Aside from being weird, the song would have to be completely edited. I figured it'd be like Kim and not even on the edited version.Comment

Is anyone else following the recent Joe vs Meth/Red "beef"? Anyway, I hope something comes out of it. I personally believe Joe would body them, but I'm probably a little biased.Comment
