Anyone else heard that new Fabolous Mixtape "Loso's Way". Joint is actually pretty good.

Anybody know if DJ Drama is still doing his Gangsta Grillz mixtapes?

Someone that can rap with some type of substance and to be able to tell a story good enough to where I actually have think to find the message in his songs/lyrics and be consistent with it. Some dudes that come to mind when I think of that: Wu Tang Clan,Jay-Z(pre big name status)Nas(Illmatic days). Those are guys that are just off my head but if I sat and gave it more thought, I could name plenty more.

THAT type of rap nowadays is so hard to find because everybody is caught up in the whole "Turn my Swag on/Walk it Out/Gucci Mane/Synthesizers/Lil Wayne Best Rapper Alive" phase that people actually believe that's real rap or hip hop when all it is just junk, IMO.

That's MY definition on what Real Rap is and i'm pretty sure everybody elses is going to be different.

Do yourself a favor and go pick up Ice Cubes latest CD "Raw Footage" great story telling cd, playing bothsides of the fence i.e. racial and good and bad of drug dealing/gang banging. He is and always have been the best story telling rapper since he entered the game.

No doubt. I was listening to Death Certificate(favorite album by him) while I was out today and was amazed at how few can do it like Cube. Every song told a story and segued into the next flawlessly. Really well put together album.

Hmm... so after Illmatic, Nas is no longer a "real rapper". From It Was Written to Untitled he was what, a pop star?

All that radio rap you are talking about is not for me, and I don't really like it, but it's still a form of hip hop that a lot of people enjoy (most people actually).

I don't really care about what other people listen to if it makes them happy. I like Justin Timberlake and Ne-Yo as much as Nas and Lupe. I don't care if that makes me "uncool". That said, the one thing I do fear is the rap with substance, meaning, depth, storytelling, etc. is going to lessen in the mainstream because the real money is in these catchy club songs that people love. And ultimately, rap is a business. I know Slaughterhouse and Nas can't keep making music forever (though Lupe gives me hope for the future of mainstream rap).

Hip Hop will never be at the level it was in the mid 90s. It was just a different time, a different sound. It's definitely transformed, for the worst mostly. There is still some great music out there. Whether it's Fabolous, Slaughterhouse, Nas, Kanye, Lupe, etc.

Speaking of Fab, damn I know I'm probably one of his biggest fans but this man can seriously be known as one of the best if he applied himself. Some of the stuff/verses he spits are just crazy.
