Hip-Hop’s underdog Joe Budden is prepping the follow-up release (WRONG LOL) to his self-titled 2003 debut and gave SOHH the exclusive on album details, DJ On Point’s absence from Mood Muzik 4, and why he says, “I owe my hip-hop life right this second to the Internet.”

The Jersey City, New Jersey rapper is on the verge of releasing his sophomore offering The Padded Room this fall and explained the project’s intentions while breaking down the title’s origin. “Well, ‘cause I’m crazy, number one and that’s the place for crazy people,” he said. “I really wanted to go somewhere differently, creatively, and musically. Somewhere I haven’t been going with Mood Muzik and my debut album. I just wanted to explore and try some different sh*t.”

Promising the album will be “all Joe Budden ideas,” Joe moved on to confirm a Mood Muzik 4 to add to his popular collection and said it’s unlikely to feature the series’ DJ, On Point. “Me and him have agreed to disagree on certain things,” he revealed. “We’re in the early stages, like [choosing a DJ] is one of the furthest things from my mind. We still in to the recording process. I’ve already started it and then I kinda just stopped to do some other things like I finished Padded Room.”

With artists logging on to promote their own music, as evidenced with the emergence of sites like ThisIs50.com and KanyeUniversity.com, Joe explained his own dependency on the web to remain relevant. “I’ve been online prior to my debut album dropping. I’mma say as far back as 2000,” he said. “I think it’s actually helped me to this day. I used to always express to the label how important that new media presence was. They just saw things a lil’ differently, but me, I was always intrigued by it, amazed by it. It kept me well-informed. Better informed than people in the streets and at the labels, actually. I would never abandon the Internet, ever. I owe my hip-hop life right this second to the Internet.”

Joe also went on record to explain the main lesson he’s learned from the music industry. “If I have learned anything from the music business it is that timelines are pieces of sh*t and that’s regarding anything,” he said. “Because at the drop of a dime, blink of an eye, anything can change.” While promising he is not currently in any active beefs because “sh*t is corny,” Budden also explained his inability to ignore challenges saying “I don’t bite my tongue for no one.”

With recent disses aimed at rappers like Mobb Deep’s Prodigy and past songs targeted at Jay-Z, Joe explained his side of the story. “The diss records, I don’t really listen to them. I do ‘em to respond or to express my point of view and I leave it alone,” he explained. “Sometimes I will go back and put on a [G-Unit diss] ‘Big Shot’ or ‘Ransom Note’, and I’ll be like, ‘Holy sh*t’ that was all right.”

The Padded Room is scheduled to hit all retail stores on October 28 via Amalgam Digital.

The first classic of the year is coming. Oh yeah, Nickle Nine (Royce) August 26th.

    BAR EXAM 2!
Can't wait for Padded Room to drop. Just counting down to Oct 28...

To each his own and all that. I am loving this album and I was never really a fan of Game. LAX Files, Angel, Dope Boys, My Life and Ya Heard are so damn tight. The whole album is, really, imo of course. I can't even think of a track that isn't good. I have been playing the hell out of this album the past couple of days.

All I know is Big Boi needs to hurry up and drop his album(or at least leak a couple weeks in advance lol).

Next Sunday needs to get here faster(Return of the Koopsta)

Andre 3000 needs to hurry up and drop his album.

Outkast needs to hurry up and drop that Gangsta Grillz.

Outkast needs to hurry up and drop their next CD.

Luda needs to hurry up and drop his album.

50 needs to hurry up and get that G-Unit Gangsta Grillz going.(Might be their absolute LAST chance save that group otherwise they are finished and as a G-Unit fan, it pains me to say that.)

I've been going through OutKast's discography the past couple of weeks - first three albums are all classics then they start that slight decline. Still, Big Boi brings it on Speakerboxx.

I think you can't go wrong with any of those albums because ALL of them we're Classics. I'd like to see where people would rank them in the all time rap groups. I think you could make a case for them being Top 5 and MAYBE Top 3.

By the way, creating that list was just as tough because like I said, ALL of them we're THAT DAMN GOOD. If I could, I'd rank all of them 1 lol.

Aquemini still gets ridiculous rotation around me. The Love Below is also always being played somehow, Speakerboxx, not so much...
