Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I don't either. I like a lot of the young cats, Casey Veggies, Chance the Rapper, etc. I don't have a problem with the Chief Keef's Lil B's and Tyler's of the world due to their age. I don't listen to em' because they're just not very good, IMO.
I didn't care much for Magna Carta or Yeezus. There is some interesting production but nothing that really grabbed me. I've never been a big fan of Jay Z anyway, even coming up in the era that he started out in. I am with Kanye, but I just wasn't impressed with Yeezus. Maybe I'm just streets behind on it, that's cool.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
So....not to go all NBA forum here but since he's the man of the hour: Jay-Z, GOAT?
I used to not think so, although I could admit he's obviously in the conversation, but after he just dropped yet another great album, it's hard not to take into account the longevity and the numbers and all of that and come away thinking he isn't.
The Pac stan in me still wants to say he's at the top, but it's getting a lot harder to.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I came in here and got hyped up got MCHG and came out underwhelmed. Severely underwhelmed.
Jay Z Blue, Nickels and Dimes, BBC (even if like 6 more people are credited as a feature than there should be) and Crown are all good, Jay Z Blue being the hands down best, but songs like Tom Ford and La Familia...I could get that off my phone fast enoughLast edited by Watson; 07-05-2013, 06:30 PM.And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Its not that people have a vendetta against the young guys. Its just that they suck to some people. Id take a young Nas, Jay, Biggie, Em over todays crop of under 25 guys every time among many many more.
I imagine in 10-20 years Fly3 and them will be saying similar things about the young artists in the future. But in all honesty if Keef is the sound of the future sign me out.
And Jay Z gets a pass on ALOT of stuff. Ive had to hear about this guy since I was born living here in Brooklyn and he may be one of the most gassed up guys ever. And Yeezus was trash. Maybe 3 songs which were really MBDTF castoffs were good. That New Slaves just pissed me off. Talk about hypocritical writing.Last edited by kingkilla56; 07-05-2013, 07:00 PM.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I disagree, for the most part when you see the fans of OF, Mac Miller, etc in this thread, they are typically Reaman, Fly, others and myself, who I'd venture to say are all on the young side, myself being 19. But then when you see praise/excitement about late 80s-90s rappers, it's typically from people like Packman, Aerobee, etc. I don't know what music jmood likes, but I have an extensive list of what he doesn't
Prime example, we've all listened to Magna Carta, and neither Fly, nor I were impressed, but others have called it the release of the summer, whereas I'd put BS, Watching Movies, and maybe Yeezus above it. There are exceptions, but it does appear to be an era thing more often than not.
Please don't make it sound like I hate everything that came out after the 90s. I'm 26 and have pretty much heard alot of stuff from the 90s up to now. If I think it's good, then it's good(regardless of when it came out). But pulling the age card is nothing but a cop out and y'all two know this.#RespectTheCultureComment

All I praise are stuff from the late 80s/90s? Most of the dudes I've praised in here are all from this century.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I'm 21 and I couldn't give a **** about Odd Future, Chief Keef, Mac Miller, etc. for the most part. All about personal taste. Much like Pack loves Curren$y, I think he's boring as ****.
The Jay-Z album turned out to just be decent, much better than BP3 was. I'd put it right around the level of Born Sinner as far as the summer releases go. Yeezus is still somewhere floating in a garbage bin, and Wale was boring...again. No interest in Mac Miller whatsoever.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Many older fans say that rap nowadays is all about the beat, not the lyrics, and that's why they don't like it. Yet the same people still try to proclaim Jay-Z as the best thing currently out, whereas there are plenty of artists out that are about lyrics/meaning, but people don't listen for them. And no, that wasn't an insult to anyone here.
Let's run with the Tyler, the Creator example. Tyler's songs are creative, have meaning, flow, beats etc, but most people don't listen deep enough to hear that because they tune out after hearing devil or (in the past) rape talk. The younger crowd are more likely to overlook that, and listen to an artist like Tyler for his creativity and whatnot. Now I can totally see someone not liking his music, different strokes for different folks after all. But to lump him in with the Chief Keefs of the world is ridiculous.
Of course there are artists out now that you like. If I had to guess, I'd venture to say that either you're a Logic/Joey Bada$$ fan, or you would be if you gave them a listen. But to that point, Joey Bada$$ raps with a 90s style.
Also, relax lol. Damn, I didn't mean to offend.Last edited by Jdoug312; 07-05-2013, 09:36 PM.Comment
