So you're saying he was a poor man's early Andre 3000?

Early Andre is a better lyricist than Lupe. What Lupe does better than early or current day Andre is paint a picture with his words. His ability to do that is what always appealed to me.

Not sure I would compare the two. Both are very different in style and subject matter.

Yeah, actually I should slightly retract my earlier statement. Around My Way wasn't really a bad song, I just found it lame to basically copy and paste the T.R.O.Y. beat and use it for your album's single. It would have been cool as a mixtape song, but for an album it was questionable IMO. Anyways, we've been through that topic here already.

That aside, Lupe's still been putting out some "lower quality" music the last year or so. Everyone keeps clamoring for "the old Lupe" but I'm not sure we'll ever get that. This might just be his natural evolution as an artist, regardless of whether it's good or not. We've seen the same thing with artists like 50, Kanye, Jay, etc.

Speaking of Jay, one of his lines applies well to this topic: "****** want my old ****, buy my old albums."

Yeah I don't think we'll get that either. Like what areobee was saying, Lupe's ability to paint a picture with his words was fantastic. I loved the whole concept/storyline of The Cool, and it was one of the biggest reasons why I loved that album. But it doesn't look like he's ever going back to that type of style, which is disappointing to me. We'll see how the rest of F&L2 turns out I suppose.

I love Kendrick as well but if there's one thing about him (for me), it's that I only like a certain amount of his songs. It's not the same as it is with some of my favorites like Pac, Kanye or J. Cole where just about any of their songs I can listen to and enjoy. I just don't really like some of the production on his songs.

                For example:

But the samething you described Lupe was exactly what Andre USED to be, which is why I he was a poor man's early Andre 3000.

                        What's funny about that?

Or do you think that it can't be true at all?

So you're talking about them both being storytellers. The subject matter between the two is too different to call him a poor man's Andre 3000.

Lupe's catalog has a much larger range of subject matter. A better
comparison for Lupe would be someone like Brother Ali.

The old school bias just gets out of control at times. Agree to disagree.

Really like the tracks Darling & Clear Eyes. Haven't heard much from them, but like the little I have.
