Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
The term "selling out" is the most ridiculous "insult" to throw at an artist.

It is but it's funny to see this with Macklemore because he has a song on his new album where he says "I'd rather be a starving artist than succeed at getting ****ed" and is all about not compromising to get on a big label but he lets the nba twist his lyrics around and change the meaning of the song.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. I feel like the artists that talk about not selling out are only saying it to sound good for their grassroots fans until their fanbase starts growing enough where they get exposure and clout to plug their stuff in mainstream things.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Do you guys think other genres you indulge in influence what rap artists you enjoy.
If so what other genres of music do you guys listen to and what rap artists do you currently have in rotation?
Ex: I listen to rock, acoustic blues, classical, country, pop/rock, reggae, r&b, soul and alternative. I also listen to film scores when reading.
Artist I'm currently listening to
J Cole
Kid cudi
Lupe
Macklemore
Slaughterhouse
Logic
Emilio Rujos
Kendrick Lamar
Andre 3k
Chris Webby
Tpain (his Rapper turnt Sanga mixtape, none of his stuff after epiphany)Psn: Plex-07Comment

Doom/sludge/desert rock(using a more TOS friendly term there) is the other biggest genre I listen to and most of the rap music I listen to has similar lo-fi grimy and dark sound. Aka the boom bap era if I have to narrow it down. There are exceptions of course.
Not many current artists are in my steady rotation Guilty Simpson and Action Bronson are probably the tops of "current" newer artists that I spin

10 years ago, if I had to predict which member of Three 6(or 3 6 for you original fans)Mafia would still be around in 2013 I would've said Project Pat.#RespectTheCultureComment

My favorite non rap stuff is Bruce Springsteen, fun., Foster the People, Mumford and Sons, and Taylor Swift (yeah I know don't say anything)
My favorite rappers are (in order)
Childish Gambino
Kanye West
Eminem
A$AP Rocky
So there really isn't that by of an influence IMO. I started liking Gambino because I knew him from his TV showBuffalo Bills
