Anheuser-Busch agree to buyout by InBev

    This is a sad day

This deal will create the world's largest beer maker but at a huge cost as one of the icons of American business has agreed to become foreign owned. This not only has an impact on the beer company but culturally as well since A-H was heavily involved in sports sponsorship which is something InBev is not so much into. We could very well see a lot of sponsorships and such go by the wayside.

Also to add some context to this InBev is a combination of two Belgian brewers one of which bought out LaBatts in Canada and for a time ran (into the ground) the Toronto Blue Jays. So while this should make for a mega conglomerate the track record is not that good in understanding the North American market.

In many ways this is the raping and pillaging of an American institution.

The new conglomerate will be known as Anheuser-Busch InBev.

Its a bummer, but with the economy the way it is right now, i think the Bud boys panicked at what could be down the road for american buisness. It doesnt look good.

Sell for 50 billion now while you can, cant blame em.

Oh, crap. At first I read this as 50 million and my jaw dropped. Billion sounds about right. I was going to ask if AH had fallen on really hard times. Guess it wasn't that bad.

I don't like it, but that's all I'll say so this doesn't get political.

I agree, and as a St. Louisan I'm real tired of local news interviewing the drunks at bars during weekdays asking about this and getting the "I aint's never gonna drink bud again dagnabit," responses.

while I didn't like the stuff, it was still an American business icon, now owned by foreign investors. This will only start happening more and more..

And price...granted it's not the absolute cheapest, but it's in the cheaper mass produced range, so your blue collar guy is more likely to buy that compared to Blue Moon, Guinness or any other more expensive import...

Hm, me thinks that's damning with faint praise.

This can all be attributed to the weakend dollar.
