    Famous Quotes....

Listening to the local radio show today, I heard a good one from Lou Holtz as told by "Rocket Ismail" back in the day as Holtz was HC of ND. After the pregame fight of the Miami Hurricanes and the Irish at the famous "Catholics vs. Convicts" game at South Bend, both teams were seperated and sent to their respective locker rooms. Holtz told his team this.."Men, we will win todays game. But if one more fight breaks out, no one better lay one hand on Jimmy Johnson, y'all save him for me!"

And one more from Jim Thorpe during the 1912 Olympics in Sweden. The King of Sweden decreed that as each countries flag bearer walked past his box at the stadium they lower their flag as a sign of respect. Only the United States and their flag bearer (Thorpe)defied the request...Thorpe responded with.."This flag lowers for no earthly king."

Doesn't have to be sports related...I know Churchill had some great ones...just wanted to see what stuff you guys had.

edit. Here's one from Churchill..."You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing...after they have tried everything else."

The pundits, the pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too. We worship an "awesome God" in the Blue States, and we don’t like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and yes, we’ve got some gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America. - Barack Obama 2004 Democratic Convention Keynote Address

I know it's very current in the grand scheme of things but despite what your preferences you have to admit it's a great passage and whoever wrote that speech deserves major kudos for that paragraph at least.

A more historical quote though is this and it's one of my favourite Churchill quotes ever:

"I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly."
Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

"Baseball is the most important thing that doesn't matter at all" - Robert B. Parker

Cliched innuendo. Read Thomas Jefferson's first inaugural for the real McCoy.

I shall do that and being an echo of Jefferson isn't the worst thing to be accused of doing.
