Re: Is this a good deal for a computer?
Yeah, I think I'm going to have a little extra money and would like to get a new computer. This one seems like an all around upgrade to the one I have now (though I don't know anything about processors).
This deal seems as good as any BF deal so I think I might jump on it. I just want it to last me a long while.
A little off-topic (but screw it, it's my topic), but if any computer heads could give me some advice...
I tried to reformat my current computer awhile back, by booting from the recovery disk and selecting "restore to default factory settings". When I did that, the computer gave me an error message while trying to reinstall the operating system saying that files are missing and I was stuck in limbo unable to get back into windows. I paid a guy to fix it and he restored all my data. However, I am now afraid to try and reformat the computer for fear it'll happen again. I really want to reformat because it is running choppy, but I'm very reluctant.Comment

Nice computer, as long as you don't do much PC gaming. You'll be all set otherwise.Comment

Yeah it probably has better specs then you will get for BF. The price will be higher, but the Hard Drive, RAM, and Processor will make up for the difference in BF price. Depends on how the consumer spending is doing, but the last few BFs have not had great deals, so I wouldn't expect some great deal.Comment

Re: Is this a good deal for a computer?
It would 100% need a new video card to not get raped by any game that came out in the last 3 years. When you see something that says "shared memory", it sucks. Anyways, it was a pretty good buy all said and done. Since it has a PCI-Express x16 slot, you should be alright if you ever wanna get a video card, since after they moved from AGP, video cards have become a lot better, less power hungry, and way way less expensive. Might need to get a new POwer Supply if you get one still though.Last edited by KENYON06; 09-01-2008, 06:08 AM.Comment

Re: Is this a good deal for a computer?
This isn't that great of a deal at all. Check slickdeals for a deal on a new pc and monitor.
Also, the price on the monitor is not good for a 19"; I spent $129 6 months ago on a 19" widescreen. Now you can get a 22" for around $180.
If you really want the best deal, you might be better off building your own computer as you can get a better system for around the same price.Comment

Re: Is this a good deal for a computer?
I would have waited, but really just depended on how bad you needed a system right now.
On last year's Black Friday I was able to get a similar system for $199 from best buy. I also sat there all night starting at 9pm, so that's something else to consider.Comment

128mb isn't really cutting the mustard these days for PC gaming. Almost all RTS and FPS (the reason to play PC games) you would want a 256mb (and not an integrated/shared card)Comment

Re: Is this a good deal for a computer?
Don't get the monitor. I payed 20 more bucks and got a sick 22'' monitor on newegg. $220 for a 19'' monitor is a complete bust. If you want a monitor, go to newegg.
Actually, I just read your post saying you got it. Sorry lol.Comment

Re: Is this a good deal for a computer?
I actually have yet to take the computer/monitor/etc. out of their boxes. They're just sitting in the hallway, lol. I'm not too worried about CPU gaming as the last two games I've played on the CPU were Worms Armageddon and The Sims.
I would like it to be able to handle the Sims 2 if I get it, but other than that I'm not a hardcore gamer. If you guys think I got completely ripped off, I can always return it (like I said, nothing is opened, I'm waiting until we move to our new apt. to unpack it).
But I dunno. It seemed like a good computer for the price, and all the reviews were extremely positive. The computer I have now has a Sempron(tm) Processor, 1.81 GHz, 448 MB of ram, and a 150 GB hard drive. I don't know what any of that means nor do I know about video cards, but the computer I just purchased seems like a big upgrade. Its specs are better than my mom's and my roomates CPU (that his friend built) (save: processors and video cards because I don't know what any of that means).
Like I said, I'm not big into CPU gaming (I don't even have a controller... wait I have a cheap one I bought back when I was playing NES, SNES, and Genesis roms lol), but I guess I'd like the option. I figured 3 rams of memory should allow most offline games to work decently, but again, I'm not exactly a pro when it comes to this stuff.
If I decide to keep this CPU, which I'm strongly leaning towards, I need to find a new version of Microsoft Office, (I made another thread about that in this forum), but it's real expensive.Comment
