        I got to 8th base!

This was my favorite episode of the season.

Sheldon with the Lantern and the Hulk hands killed me.

            Maybe I'm over thinking this....

But why is a human as brilliant as the Sheldon character unable to work out the most basis concepts about dating/sex?

I get his mom's religous infleunce stunting his social growth early, but the amount of pop culture he injests would have by now given him a "grasp" of the idea. Hell, comic books alone should have him aware of the simplest form.

That said I find the show insanely funny but it just nagged at me a bit last night.

Have you ever met those people who are very intelligent/book smart, but lack any and all common sense? I think Sheldon was created in that mold. My wife's sister is this way. She's a Doctor and a pretty good one, but has absolutely no common sense when it comes to everyday things in life. I'll never understand how someone can learn all the inner workings of the human body, but can't figure out how to turn on the windshield wipers in her car - and you should see her with guys/dating....oh my....talk about clueless. A guy could tell her anything and she'd believe it. It would be funny if it weren't so sad because a lot of the guys she dates take advantage of this. Anyhow, that's the way I think of Sheldon. Incredibly book smart, completely moronic in terms of common sense.

Last night's episode was hilarious. Sheldon had me cracking up...

Book smart does not always equal socially smart. The whole too smart for your own good.

I'm just saying that with the characters level of book smart, he just can't be that socially clueless. Even if he was uncomfortable with it or inexperienced, he'd still recognize it inside the context of the situation.

Sure it's funny as hell but It simplifies how complex his brain actually should be.

I've seen it personally. It's not so much clueless to social conventions as a disinterest in those social conventions.

That I'd buy way more than the bumbling naivete segments.

A good example is the episode where the upstairs neighbor was having sex and he "deducted" they were jumping up and down on the bed. That is either a massive psychological condition or you ignore the pop culture that Sheldon has injested.

I'm telling ya... I've seen it first hand with my sister-in-law (and others). Ridiculously intelligent individuals with IQ's that are off the chart that are the most incredibly backward and socially inept individuals. It's not as far-fetched as one might think...

MJB I agree with you. In fact, one of my closest buddies from high school was a brain and has his doctorate in some kinda brain science junk and the kid has always been a little off. He's a good person, very nice, etc but he is just slightly awkward around people even though he grew up in a very social envirnoment. Also, alot of his friends/colleagues (sp) are similar in the way they work together except when you bring up sciences or something that is relateable for all of them.

I've been watching Star Trek the Original Series and Sheldon reminds me of Bones.
