RIP to one of the last true icons of the silver screen.

The movies that I liked from him were superb and he was truly a one of a kind actor.

Damn good actor and from what I can tell an excellent person.

At 83...I'd say he had a pretty good life though.

Wasn't this coming? I can't remember if it was him or somebody else.

Anyway, 83 years old sounds like a lifetime to me... I can't recall any of his movies, but I know his name and face very well.

There was a thread earlier in the last month or so talking about his health troubles and how he was only a couple weeks away from dying. As for some of his movies i'm sure you've at least seen The Color of Money or Road to Perdition.

It's kind of a shame that he had to suffer through cancer and die as a couple years ago he was saying he wanted to reprise his Fast Eddie Felson role from The Hustler and The Color of Money for one last time.

great actor, sad to see him go but at least he lived 83 years and left us with tons of memories and classic roles.

Great man, on and off the screen. Especially with all the charity donations that he's done over the past years. I'll definitely help keep his dreams alive if they continue to produce Newman's Own products!

Actor before my generation, but was worthy of my time to check out a lot of his movies. Great actor and great man. RIP
