Glad you liked Warlock, and Appaloosa takes a little from it. Most notably at the beginning of the film is the scene where Harris & Viggo Mortenson see the town in it's entirety as they approach it. The vastness of the desert and diminutiveness of the town is highlighted in the same way it was when Fonda and Quinn approached the town of Warlock. Like Fonda and Quinn, Harris and Mortenson are hired to protect the town from a band of unrulies, but don't augment their pay with a casino setup. There is no Richard Widmark counterpart, his character in Warlock being the bad guy turned good sherrif.
I didn't like this movie as much as Warlock or Unforgiven, mostly because of Rene Zellweger. Looking particularly unattractive, when she wasn't suppose to be, the slowest parts of the movie are her responsibilty. If you're wasting my time at least give me something pretty to look at-she was near hideous. Good movie but Zellweger was a pace killer.

Warlock? Isn't that the old Henry Fonda/Anthony Quinn flick? I've seen bits and pieces of it if that's the one. Once Upon a Time in the West is still my favorite Western.

On your comment I tried to watch Once Upon a Time in the West, but faltered after 20 minutes. I should have hung in there, but the tiny letter box format didn't help either. It was just a sliver on my screen.

I understand. It's worth watching though,if for anything the shock you get when the main bad guy is revealed.

                saw this today...great movie imo.

Harris and Mortenson should definitely get some nominations, and I could see the movie being up for best picture.

I highly recommend it. After rereading my comments one might think otherwise. I just didn't care for Zelweger.

yea she was the worst part of the movie imo. Those were my least favorite scenes, but they were necessary for the overall story

I don't think I ever really care for her in movies. She just doesn't do it for me.

Still wanting to check this out though. Finding time is my biggest obstacle so far.

Me either. For some odd reason though,I did find her kinda hot in Bridget Jones.

                              Just saw this today.

I thought it was good. Definitely not great or memorable or anything like that. It's not a classic, but it's good. I enjoyed the dialog especially Hitch (Mortensen). Zellwegger (and her character) were a drag on the movie. And while I liked Irons' character, ultimately I was a little disappointed in him. I guess I was expecting more of a Denton Baxter-type character from Open Range.
