Beat It (though I accidentally voted for Thriller). Thriller would be a close second.

When I was a youngster, I played Beat It on casette almost everyday (usually more than once) and would play air guitar along with it. Eventually, the casette broke, but those were some good times while they lasted.

I know the connotations today are awfully bad but to me it's "PYT" hands down. It's just a very danceable song and it fuses together some 60s/70s soul sensibilities with the sound Michael had going on in the '80s.

Truly a gem of a song.

Thriller shouldn't even be considered. It's a generic pop song made famous by its over-the-top and groundbreaking music video. It kind of started the trend where Jackson (and others) would write videos instead of songs. I have fond memories of Black or White and recently watched the video on Youtube to revisit it and the song really isn't that good. It's got that catchy little guitar riff but the song is nothing, its all video.

I'll go with Smooth Criminal. That song is cool, and it worked with the video too. I'll also give a shout out to the duet with Janet, Scream, as that was pretty catchy even though it came towards the end of Jackson's heyday. Anybody else miss the days when a new Michael Jackson video was a primtime event? And furthermore, the days when pop artists actually employed real musicians for their songs?
