I'm surprised no one noticed that the opening to the tunnels where Richard, Jack, etc. emerged from the water is the exact same location where the pillar with holes was when "Smokey" visited Ben.

Nah, I noticed. It looked like a tunnel system that leads to the Temple that Alpert keeps saying some of his people are.

        It makes sense.

So, assuming that Lost stays on track here and everything happens as it happened, then does Jack die during this process? Does he become Jacob as a result? The assumed leader for saving the Others? Is Jacob ever mentioned by the Others in the 50's or 70's? I can't recall.

Richard says he watched all of them die. So they have to die. This would seem like the best time for it to happen. Or maybe they die during the Purge. But they die. Richard's comment didn't make it seem like natural causes.
I'm pretty sure Eloise is with child at the point she shoots Faraday and leaves because of the writings in the journal.

Widmore was banished some time later by Ben for having relations off the island. I wonder if the Hostiles had ways off the island before they took over the sub.

If Alpert has been there "a long" time and doesn't age.....Anything is possible in regards to Jacob. I don't even have a clue about Christian. Is he alive or dead. Is he a ghost. Anything is possible at this point.

It seems too obvious of a conclusion that Jack and the others will sacrifice themselves only to be "reborn" on flight 815 and land in LA. That has cheese factory written all over it.

Did Alpert ver come in contact with Hurley and gang in 2004 after 815 crashed. If he did, I don't recall a reaction like "What The......I saw you die 30 years before."

I've got a hunch the Losties back in '77 are still alive and are the Others in the temple who we've heard Richard or Ben reference to a couple times. I think Richard's statement seeing all of them die was in regards to The Purge and was meant to throw us off believing the Losties all died.

So you think he meant the other people in that picture when he says he saw them all die?

            Possible.

I was also considering the possibility that it's older versions of those Losties that are at the Temple. We haven't seen these people so they must be important. Lost never hides anyone for no reason. It's why I know Jacob is someone we know. Has to be. Even if it's not a huge main character. It's someone we've seen before. If it's just some random stranger then he'll just be another guy and the producers would have been stringing us along. But if it's someone we know, especially someone that'll shock us, then Alpert would have been hiding the secret for a reason.

Much like Locke being in the casket. It was someone we knew and they tried to cover it up for an entire season.

You may be right. Although didn't they send a bunch of people to the temple circa 2004. Like the flight attendant from season 2 and some of the kids from 815. I think almost all of the others took refuge in the temple when the freighter showed up.

Also, assuming the submarine gets to the real world and Sawyer, Juliet, and Kate are living out there in 1977, do you get the feeling that these three have been following the Losties around? Shouldn't they be present?

Wouldn't you want to see yourself go on Flight 815?

Something goes Fubar with the sub, guaranteed. I bet Sawyer, Bugs, and Smirkette are all back on the island for the finale next week.

And if it is Hurley and company that is at the Temple, they would be old....60's and 70's. Aging doesn't stop for them. And Hurley will probably die of natural causes long before that.

Yea, if they are there then they are old.

Makes plenty of sense. I think that is why Eloise told Jack it was his destiny to get back on the island.

Think that is where Claire is? With her fellow elderly 815'ers?

All I know is that the writers said that Claire will be back in Season 6 and we will learn about her whereabouts.

I haven't commented in here very much this season, mainly because I'm pretty lost on the time travel thing, but this is such an incredible show. I like how they tied in Hurley's comment when they first arrived back on the island about the Dharma people asking them about who the president is in 1977 into last night's show. I love the little stuff like that they throw in there. Just an amazingly well written show.

The President Question was a joke in reference to Back to the Future. Doc Brown asks Marty in 1955 who is president in 1985 and he says Ronald Reagan, and Doc Brown goes off "THE ACTOR?"
