    ebay + paypal = migraine

I've been on ebay for years. Now, for some reason just now, when I sold a few items today, paypal decides to inform me that they'll hold the funds for 21 days or until the sale meets some criteria, like proving it delivered, etc. The auction got flagged because it falls under their high-risk category, which includes items "such as gift certificates, video games, cell phones, computers, or consumer electronics."

    WTF.

So not only are the ebay fees a joke, and the feedback system is buyer slanted, but now I can't even get my money until the person gets the item. Who would ship an item when the funds are held or haven't cleared? Is it just me, or is this not horribly backwards?

There is no way I'm sending an item and not being paid for it. Ever. I'll cancel the auction, send the money back, and take a negative on ebay before I ever agree to this.

I'm now done with ebay and paypal forever.

    Pay Pal sucks.

I transferred around $2,000 after eBay sales to my bank account. 2-3 days later Pay Pal tried to reverse the transaction taking the money back from my bank. Fortunately I got a hold of this right away and told my bank to block all transfers from Pay Pal.

I remember speaking with Pay Pal while this was happening and they told me to let the transaction go or also my account will go into negative. However, the lady told me that my money will be back in 30-90 days.

So as I said, I stopped the transaction, my PP account went into negative and the next day went back to $0.00. Nothing PP could do about.

Sucks though that you couldn't withdraw the funds before they put it on hold. I've heard about and been through a lot of PP's BS, never gets old.

Wow, strange, what were you selling? Ebay has become a joke, between the feedback system being like you mentioned, the fees where they insult your intelligence by lowering the listing fee while increasing the final value fee to the point where your losing more money overall then before, and Im about done as well now. Is your money now stuck in limbo or something? So the buyer has to report that he received it before you get the money, and if so, what happens if the buyer never responds at all?

Just be lucky you don't use 2Checkout for accepting payments like I used to do. You had to reach a minimal limit of $600.00 in sold goods before they released money to you. Big mistake! I cancelled the account and the funds that were in there will take up to 90 days to reach my bank.

They did this to me with a game I sold...

I was unaware of this practice. Luckily the buyer was someone who was aware of the practice, and he left positive feedback as soon as he got the item.

Odd thing was they said they would release if I entered tracking number and it was confirmed delivered. It was confirmed delivered by UPS for 3 days and they never cleared it. Took the positive feedback.

It's such a pain in the butt that I don't even really feel like using ebay anymore.

I'll stick with Craigslist if I think it will sell there....

I've sold and bought 30 things on ebay...I hope I haven't been unaware of losing any money.

the buyer paid like he was supposed to, and paypal has it on hold. It's not in my paypal balance yet, but of course they already took their fees off of it for the ebay auction. If he doesn't leave positive feedback, it'll take up to 21 days for it to clear.

All the while, paypal is holding it, collecting interest on it an pissing me off. What's funny is that ever since I got on ebay and was forced to use paypal, they always said don't ship until payment clears. Now they are holding it and telling me to ship out of my pocket without having access to the funds you gather to do just that. What's the point of charging for shipping on ebay if you can't actually use it to pay for shipping?

I hate both paypal and ebay. ebay has started making all kinds of off the wall changes to their system the last 6 months.

1-Feedback system is a mess. It is bad enough they gave power to the buyer the way they did, but then if you had any neutral feedback it counted against you. Within the last 2 months they fixed that with the neutral feedback.

2-No more expensive fees up front depending on what you are charging for a starting bid. Now they collect all that at the end of the sale, so initial listing fees are around .15.

I agree completely, I was running around 0.50 for listing fees previously and now Im paying around 0.10 but they are taking so much more off the back end that they are taking more in the end then before so while it seems nice to the idiot who cant do math, its terrible for anyone who can see through the bs that ebay is trying to pull off. I sell on ebay as a last resort anymore, I throw things on craigslist.com, if its a movie or game then I can throw those on Hi-Def Digest and sell those there so that covers everything I sell, ebay is only used when something wont sell on either of the other two mentioned.

Yes, but the set-up is a lot easier and you don't have to use PayPal.

                          how stupid is paypal, really?

I refunded the buyer a penny, and it lifted the hold. Now the money is in my paypal account. So even if I were a high risk seller never intending to ship the item, their hold is easily circumvented.

LOL, typical, they put in some idiotic hold process for supposed high rick items yet something so simple circumvents that hold anyways, pointless.
