I consider myself somewhat of a collector but I watch 95% of everything Ive bought with the exception on some movies that I just havent gotten around to watching as of yet. Some people collect sports cards, stamps, coins, video games etc so I dont see how collecting movies is such a negative thing.
Perhaps the tacky thing is a personal quirk of mine...I've just seen some family rooms which have looked like a video rental store. Those other collectibles tend to appreciate over time while there are very few DVD's, if any, that appreciate over time. I cannot think of a single commerical VHS that holds any significant value. I could be wrong on that though as I'm just thinking off the top of my head ("which VHS would I pay for?")

Good night! Time to catch up on the sleep I lost last night haha!

I've watched the majority of the films I own more than 2-3 times.

I don't get the tacky thing either. Thats kind of like saying its tacky looking to have 200+ CDs to choose from.

He's saying it looks tacky having a wall that looks like you carved out a section of Blockbuster and put it in your home.

I have to agree with the guy, it kind of does.

I used to have my 500+ CD's out for all to see, then one day you get old enough and realize, meh this looks kind of goofy.

It's a personal taste thing, one in which somebody should not get offended by.

You watch them once, twice, and they sit there. Does it just boost your ego or something when people come over and you have a huge (tacky looking) collection sitting in your living room?

Again, I'm just curious because all of these "deals" just seem like a huge waste of money especially since DVD's etc. are (very) soon to be the new VHS (digital downloads etc.)

Not that I buy movies on Black Friday, but I like "collecting" movies that I've enjoyed, and quite often go back to view them a lot..

            Agree

I had the huge DVD collection with the cool looking racks, but I too thought it looked tacky. Like a poor mans version of a bookshelf. I finally put all of my DVDs (which I never rewatch) in DVD books and threw out all of the cases. I never should have bought all of them in the first place.

I posted this over in the wrestling section but I will put here also. I am a big wrestling fan. There is this one wrestling company named Ring of Honor (ROH for short). They were running a sale this week were they had a bunch of their shows on sale for $10 (normally $20 each). They also had an additional 20% off on Thanksgiving Day only. I ended up buying 12 shows.

Later in the day I went to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling's website to checkout what they had on sale for Black Friday. I ended up getting 7 wrestling shirts for $50 (normally $20 a piece).

Those were the only deals I got. I wasn't really looking to get anything else.

I watch movies every day of my life. Every movie that I have owned for at least a year now, I have watched at least 15 times. Some of my favorites, like The Matrix, Saw, etc., I have seen well over 40 times. They don't get old for me. It's not ego-boosting.

However, at the same time, I do like to have the display. For instance, it wouldn't feel the same if I had them in a CD case, it wouldn't have the same feel for me. That's not for people to come over and see my display, but it just feels better for me for some reason. Much like when I buy something at Best Buy instead of Target... something feels better walking out with that product at Best Buy IMO.

Didn't go out anywhere except BB tonight and picked up a $399.99 notebook for a gift for someone.

For myself, went nuts last night at amazon.com. Wow, Amazon owned this year.

Had a good day, I wish I could've picked up Live and Madden 09 for 30 bucks though. (As presents for my friends for christmas)

                      But I picked up
                      -2 portable dvd players $88 @ Target
                      -1412 Magellan GPS @ Sears $150
-LBP guide at Target-Free (me and my son was looking at it-19 months-while mom was shopping) and I forgot it was in the cart, was putting the bags in the car and was like "OHH SH___"
-bought my son an Elmo couch -$20 @ Babie-r-us
-Dual SHock PS3 controller @ Wal-mart since RS crapped out -$30

Best part of the day, having brunch at Cracker Barrell (sp)

Stll looking for a laptop though under $450? Any ideas? Might head out for a little today to office max/office depot?

If the picture is any indication, that is the TV I own. But the specs are completely different from mine. Here's what yours says:
The Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD High-Definition TV specs include a resolution of 1920 x 1080, FULL 1080p HD, 5 ms Response Time, 10,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio and Integrated Digital TV Tuner.
                            Here's what mine would say:
The Samsung LN-T2353H pecs include a resolution of 1360 x 768, FULL 720p HD, 8 ms Response Time, 4,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio and Integrated Digital TV Tuner.
Make sure you find out which one you got exactly, because a 23" 1080p TV? Wow!

Is it true what I have been reading about contrast ratio (10,000:1) being the most useless info in regards to determining a TV's quality? From what I read (and remember) they do these tests in EXTREME BLACK and EXTREME WHITE and set the ratios from there. In other words, unless you watch your TV in a black hole or at the gate's of Heaven, you likely will not notice a difference between 1,500:1 or 20,000:1.

The 3-4 articles I read on this mentioned that this is the # that retaliers are using to really take consumers as it appears to be something people are really concerned about (without really knowing what it is or what it means).

Any pro's out there really know the details of this?

Well, contrast ratio is exactly that... how separate can your whites be from your blacks? To be honest, it's not a thing that we use very much, because we don't like them to be that separate. I would like true black, at least on my bars when watching movies (they aren't separate from the film material unlike my plasma at home, which is unfortunate). And it makes a difference, but when you're reading those ones that go 1,000,000:1 on you, either the difference is little to nothing, or they are just flat out lying to you.
