Re: Most Well Known Movie Of All Time?
Before opening this thread the first movie that came to mind was Wizard of Oz or It's A Wonderful Life.Last edited by funky_chicken; 11-13-2008, 07:26 PM.Comment

Re: Most Well Known Movie Of All Time?
Not this younger crowd.
Besides, what do you mean by "most known?" Many people that haven't seen either may know the name, but beyond that they don't know the story, cast, reason for its epicness, or anything like that.
I'd say Star Wars or Jurassic Park.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Most Well Known Movie Of All Time?
Probably not this younger crowd but the OP left it wide open for many interpretations plus it's ALL TIME not movies of the last 30 years. I also assume this would be a universal thing rather then "all time to people 25-30 yrs old and in North America".Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Most Well Known Movie Of All Time?
Not quite correct. The movie was beset with a ton of problems. A lot of actors didn't want to be in it or left for various reasons (the best known of which was Buddy Ebsen who was actually cast as the Tin Man but had such a bad reaction to the makeup that he was forced out) and the movie had a lot of directorial problems. In fact, the movie went through FIVE(!) different directors. The movie was hugely popular and MGM even toyed around with the idea of making a sequel but that didn't come to fruition. The main problem was the movie cost an unheard of cost of $2,777,000. It earned only $3,000,000 on its initial release but as well know they recouped all that in spades with future releases, TV and video/DVD.Comment

Yep. Gone With The Wind is #1 all-time for tickets sold in US cinemas, well ahead of Star Wars (even including the 1997 re-release) and roughly double that of Titanic.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: Most Well Known Movie Of All Time?
Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind were the two that popped into my head first, though I know absolutely nothing about Gone With The Wind and never plan on watching it. I just Wiki'd it and saw that it was on the Civil War, def did not know that."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Most Well Known Movie Of All Time?
I'm going to agree with those saying Star Wars.
The younger kids will all know the series. Most of them won't know what the hell Gone with the Wind is, or even The Godfather.
The Star Wars series is still relative to this generation; hell they're still making new shows about it.
Gone with the Wind might be really well known by the older generation; but I really doubt that if you were to jump on the street and ask 100 kids if they'd heard of Gone with the Wind or even The Godfather, more would answer yes than they would to Star Wars. I would bet almost every single kid would answer yes to the Star Wars series.
My logic here is that the older generations will know what Star Wars is, as will the younger generations.
The older generations will know those classic movies, but the younger generation not so much.Comment
