Because we don't have any World War 2 vets on OS. I can also assume with pretty solid confidence that most people here would rather watch the BCS national championship game over a 19th century Russian opera.

and if you really think movies like Happy Gilmore are better then Citizen Kane then I dont know what else I can say as we clearly have a different idea as to what constitutes a good movie apparently.
When did I ever mention Happy Gilmore?

I can think of 15 Denzel Washington movies, at least 10 of which won't make the list that 99% of OS would rather watch than Citizen Kane.

Saying you'd enjoy watching Citizen Kane is like saying you wouldn't bone Rosie for $500,000. Yeah, it's nice to say so people think you're cool, but when the chips are on the table, you clearly aren't going to act as you said you were.

Re: DISCUSSION of The Definitive Top OS 100 Movies

Cebby I watch a ton of movies pre '70 and let me tell you I can distinguish between a good movie for its time and something that is classic and timeless that deserves at least some recognition. To simply paint with a huge brush and call anyone who nominates something from the Golden Age a "older clown" is highly disrespectful.

I'm a movie fan who looks beyond what the critics say and judge movies for how they entertain me and I can tell you there are a lot of worthy films made before 1970 that are at least worth nominating.

Re: DISCUSSION of The Definitive Top OS 100 Movies

Is there anyway we could trim the fat down to 64 movies and run a tournament style bracket consisting of the movies left, leaving 1-3 days open for voting on each round? I think it might be far more interesting and entertaining to just have straight votes and run it that way instead of the way its running now with things just constantly getting thrown out there. If nobody thinks its a good idea then thats fine as well, just wanted to throw it out there in case anyone else agreed.

Here's some that I would personally have in a top 100.

              Dead Poet's Society
              Tombstone
              Star Wars
              Shawshank Redemption
              Se7en
              Rounders
              Pulp Fiction
              Unforgiven
When I was just a little boy
I asked my father what would he be
Is he like Wrighty, or Titi henry?
Here’s what he said to me
oh Vela Vela, our Mexican superstar
              He’s better than Lou Saha
              oh Vela Vela…

Is there gonna be a definitive list of nominations and a real way we can make a surefire 100?

Cause right now its just people vetoing and nominating movies and stuff is just getting cancelled out before we can get to 100

300 could not possibly be more over the top. The film tries too hard to be epic and but it came off as cheesy. I laughed the whole movie.

In 10 years time, no one will talk about this movie except to make fun of it. The only thing it did well was the CGI but even that will look cheesy in 10 years when CGI technology is infinitely better.

Also, I see nothing wrong with ranking Happy Gilmore above Hotel Rwanda. Everyone ranks movies differently and part of the way I rank movies is by how enjoyable they are a second or third time. Hotel Rwanda was great the one time but it isn't the kind of movie I would watch over and over again. I like to know what is going on in the world so one time was enough for me to learn about what happened in Rwanda but I don't enjoy watching depressing movies over and over again.

Happy Gilmore on the other hand is enjoyable every time I watch it. The fact that I can jump into Happy Gilmore at any point in the film and enjoy it makes it a better movie than Hotel Rwanda to me.

Bogart is my favorite actor of all time but I completely hate that movie too. So you're not alone in that thinking.

Great unique flick.... but is it top 100 worthy? Personally, I can think of 5 other sports flicks I'd rather have.

The thing with Citizen Kane is not so much that it is a great movie but what Orson Wells did as a first time director, take a look at his directing techniques he invented the low angled camera movements-extreme facial closeups-long uninterrupted shots-chiaroscuro lighting-overlapping dialog, giving a realistic effect to conversations-subjective camera angles-deep focus shots and depth of field, many, many, more, he was brilliant. The soundtrack is also exceptional as well. Not to be missed by a true movie fan!
