Watched it last night, enjoyed it very much, but I'm sorry NO awards for the movie in my eyes. Just a good solid movie, only people who watch wrestling will really enjoy it, My parents saw it and they both said it stunk. I liked very much.

I can't speak for your parents but I know for a fact my father would love the film. I think older men (especially athletes or those that lived 'hard' lives) can sympathize and relate to Rourke's character about breaking down.Comment

Re: The Wrestler
I think that's too strong of a statement. A lot of people watch movies to see something different and not something that is familiar to them. Plus, the wrestling scenes weren't there to please wrestling fans. They sure didn't make me want to go, "Hurray for wrestling!" They were just like any other scene in any other movie that gives you insight into the characters that just happened to have wrestling in it.Comment

Re: The Wrestler
I watched the film with three people who have never been interested in wrestling (2 guys, 1 girl) and all three loved it. Two of them knew about the film going in, and one hadn't even heard of it. I don't think this is a movie for a niche crowd.Comment

Re: The Wrestler
I completely agree. You don't have to like wrestling to enjoy this movie. In all honesty, the wrestling is secondary in the movie...it's about the character, the struggle he's going through with his life, not the fact that he's a washed up wrestler.Comment

Re: The Wrestler
Yeah...the movie's so deep and about the character that wrestling is only the setting. I think for wrestling fans it just evokes the thought of past heroes and that this could be their life...Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: The Wrestler
I loved it. Had a really cool "New Hollywood" late 60s-early 70s feel to it, with the quick cuts to black and a few other technical and story-based things.
I liked it a lot, should it win a ton of awards, probably not but I really enjoyed it.PSN: VoicesWrestling

Re: The Wrestler
Watched it again tonight and while I still enjoyed the movie as much as the first time I saw it, Im not entirely sure I get the ending to it. If anyone wants to shoot me a PM explaining it or using spoiler tags in here it would be appreciated. I have a pretty good idea as to what happened, or what Im supposed to assume happened, but I would be interested in hearing others thoughts on it as well.Comment

Make your choice.
That's the essence of an ending like that. What do you think happened?
I'm the eternal pessimist, so I had my own idea, but everyone is different. That's the beauty when an ending like this is backed up by a tremendous story.
But here it is anyway. If you want me to send a PM just let me know, just so we don't ruin anything for people who haven't seen it.
SpoilerI don't want to say he died of a heart attack or anything I just don't think that's very reasonable, to me. He looked over, didn't see her and was instantly back into the trap of pro wrestling, he had nobody to love. Cassidy was potentially out of his life, moving away... his daughter never wanted to see him again. That's all. I think that jump was the figurative jump BACK into professional wrestling. Some may say they thought he died, I don't think so though. I think he just realized he was alone in the world and all he had was professional wrestling at that point so even if it will risk his life every time he goes out there, it's what he will choose to do.Last edited by FedEx227; 01-07-2009, 02:51 AM.PSN: VoicesWrestling

I can tell you right now.

I can see both angles and reasons for both angles, thats why I wanted to hear what others thought, thanks for offering up your take on it though, appreciate it.Comment

Re: The Wrestler
My take on the ending:
SpoilerI thought you could take it either way (heart attack or no heart attack). Either way it just showed how that even if he tried to change it, Ram's life was pro wrestling. Maybe if Pam had realized sooner, or if his daughter gave him another chance. But then you have to figure he'd just screw it up again. In the ring he was happiest, so that's what he'll do, no matter what happens.
I lean towards him dying in the ring, but even if he didn't then it just signifies that he's accepted what his life is and will be...Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

SpoilerI don't think it matter whether he dies there or not. You pretty much have to accept that if he doesn't die there, he will die very soon and it will be because of his choice to wrestle. His first heart attack made him realize his own mortality so he wanted to provide some value with the rest of his life. But through the events that transpired, it became clear to him that he could do the most good being a wrestler for his fans despite how short he would be able to keep that up.Comment
