Watched it last night, enjoyed it very much, but I'm sorry NO awards for the movie in my eyes. Just a good solid movie, only people who watch wrestling will really enjoy it, My parents saw it and they both said it stunk. I liked very much.

I can't speak for your parents but I know for a fact my father would love the film. I think older men (especially athletes or those that lived 'hard' lives) can sympathize and relate to Rourke's character about breaking down.

I think that's too strong of a statement. A lot of people watch movies to see something different and not something that is familiar to them. Plus, the wrestling scenes weren't there to please wrestling fans. They sure didn't make me want to go, "Hurray for wrestling!" They were just like any other scene in any other movie that gives you insight into the characters that just happened to have wrestling in it.

I watched the film with three people who have never been interested in wrestling (2 guys, 1 girl) and all three loved it. Two of them knew about the film going in, and one hadn't even heard of it. I don't think this is a movie for a niche crowd.

I completely agree. You don't have to like wrestling to enjoy this movie. In all honesty, the wrestling is secondary in the movie...it's about the character, the struggle he's going through with his life, not the fact that he's a washed up wrestler.

My wife doesn't care about wrestling and thought the movie was great.

Yeah...the movie's so deep and about the character that wrestling is only the setting. I think for wrestling fans it just evokes the thought of past heroes and that this could be their life...

I loved it. Had a really cool "New Hollywood" late 60s-early 70s feel to it, with the quick cuts to black and a few other technical and story-based things.

I liked it a lot, should it win a ton of awards, probably not but I really enjoyed it.

Watched it again tonight and while I still enjoyed the movie as much as the first time I saw it, Im not entirely sure I get the ending to it. If anyone wants to shoot me a PM explaining it or using spoiler tags in here it would be appreciated. I have a pretty good idea as to what happened, or what Im supposed to assume happened, but I would be interested in hearing others thoughts on it as well.

I can tell you right now.

                        Make your choice.

That's the essence of an ending like that. What do you think happened?

I'm the eternal pessimist, so I had my own idea, but everyone is different. That's the beauty when an ending like this is backed up by a tremendous story.

But here it is anyway. If you want me to send a PM just let me know, just so we don't ruin anything for people who haven't seen it.
