I had to go with the "dock" originally due to my job (a perk working for a rental car company is a free car, but you have to change up so many days), so that ruled out "hardwiring" into the car.

When I get a new car, I want to get one with an input like your's has..
I've tried it out a few times, and it worked well..

This is the one I have in my car. Plugs into the lighter thing and ends up in the headphone jack of your iPod or other MP3 player. You tune it to the station it says on the little LED screen.

However, my girlfriend has one that's made for iPods. You plug it into where you usually charge the iPod and it charges your iPod and plays music. It's better because you get the charge and you don't use the volume on your iPod at all (just the car speakers). Works just like the other but it's specifically for iPods.

Just go to a Best Buy or something and ask about them. I've never had a problem with static with my girlfriend's, but with mine, since I can use both the volume on my iPod and through the car speakers, it can get messed up a little bit. But never had any problems when it's raining or anything like that.

I bought a deck with USB control.
Just plug the iPod in and you're good to go.
It also works with USB drives, which is very handy.

Sounds like my setup. It's a TuneFlex from Griffin Technology.

It's a great product, very sturdy and if you can hide the aux wire like I did in my car, it looks like a custom installation for your iPod.

Same here, after using the auxillary port I could never go back to an FM transmitter again, the static I always picked up using that thing was enough to drive me nuts. Wasn't overly loud but just knowing it was there was too much for me.

If your wife can use an auxillary port in her car definitely go that way.

gotta co-sign this, i got a pioneer after trying to go the cheap route with the fm transmitters and wasn't pleased with the sound quality, and i'm glad with the pioneer i got.

Direct line-in is the way to go, whether you get a whole new deck or just have one installed. You can get the cord for about $15 bucks, I think... then if you're good with installing stuff like that, you can do it yourself, or you can have someone install it for you (for a price, of course).

I used to look at them on www.crutchfield.com. You can start at http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/a...tml%3ftp%3d120 to find out if they have an adapter for your car.

I had an iTrip FM transmitter for my Nano. It worked pretty well, but the only downfall was that it didn't charge the battery as it played. It died within 2-3 hours.
