I am near where that incident took place also (about 35 minutes to Valley Stream). Sad thing is the guy was the same age as me (34), and that he was sent there as a part time worker by an employment agency...

Scary to think too that the "employment agency" I am going through for a job (starts Jan 5th), said that they will look for some "short-term/ temporary work" for me until then........ no thanks, I'll pass on that..

People are freakin' crazy and Wal-Mart and all the other stores need to start reigning in this crazy Black Friday antics and start using some sort of system for these types of openings. This "camping" out obsession is getting ridiculous and retailers need to recognize the risks and address them before stuff like this happens.

It seems each year the stores are opening up earlier and earlier and just adding fuel to the fire and each year it seems we hear about this kind of stuff more and more.

My wife is on crutches and she said people jostled her and one man took a cart she was reaching for. She was surprised with how rude people were today. This was well after the opening rush, as well. Sometimes I freakin' hate people.

Really depends on the store. Best Buys in my area have always handled the crowds well. Talked to the crowd well in advance of giving out tickets (which reserved your purchase til 11AM) and allowed people in 30-40 at a time. They also had police to monitor behavior too. Never had any problems besides a few people trying to cut in line...

I don't know why people are surprised when others are rude. We've created these kinds of people because the 80% of us that are relatively civilized won't put our foots down and tell these people they're being jagoffs.

I don't have the slightest problem telling somebody they're being rude or inconsiderate.

Take for instance the guy that got in the express lane with 15 some odd items. I asked him if he couldn't count or couldn't read. When he asked me what I was talking about, I looked at him and said, "The sign says 10 items or less, so either you can't count or you can't read."

The dude got pretty embarrassed, shuffled off to another line and I got a nice big thank you from the checker. I'm willing to bet he learned how to count the next time he went to the store.

Some day you are going to do that to the wrong person. So just be careful. I think this is sad, but it happens. You just have to be careful out there.

Here's the problem, we have a huge group of people that think they can just say FU to the rest of us. They think if they look badass enough they just piss on the rest of society.

So we see the values of some people:

                        Material goods > human preservation/safety

Preservation of self/family is pretty much all people care about anyways.

Why help somebody who won't benefit you back? Because it's the right thing to do?

Around here you don't do that. We have a lot of Thugs! But I agree with what you are saying, but the older I get the more I just let it go. You just have to e alert and know your surrounding.

I never understood the Black Friday craze.

Sounds like a monumental waste of time to me.

I don't really know if the people were trying to kill someone. I think they got carried away. It happens at concerts a lot too. When you have that many people it can cause some trouble.

It is the sales. MY friend got a 22 inch Flat Screen Tv with a DVD for under 300. That is a great deal.
