I'm a Will Smith fan and Fresh Prince is basically my all-time favorite show, but Denzels movies are waaaaaay beyond Will Smith.

Will Smith has a long way to go to catch up with Denzel. Denzel Washington is one of the few actors that can make every character he plays into a memorable one.

Will Smith could never pull off a character like Alonzo Harris.

Yes.

I'd like to see Smith do some of the same roles Denzel had in Training Day, Remember The Titans, something similar along those lines.

He needs to stop focusing on making tentpole/blockbuster films and work on his craft. Will gets by because he has a good personality and appeal and he uses that in every film. Bad Boys, Independence Day, I Robot etc...all the same guy. People hated Hancock and I Am Legend but I liked them because he played someone different.

Comparing him to Denzel isnt fair. Denzel was a trained actor before he hit it big. Will is still refining his craft and learning how to act.

I don't think we've seen Will Smith's best yet. I think that in 10-15 years he'll be a comparable actor. I agree with aholbert that Smith needs to stop concentrating on the blockbuster type films and work on projects that demand more of his acting abilities. We've seen flashes of what Will can do even early in his career with Six Degrees of Separation and other films in the last few years.

You can definitely see an Oscar type potential in him and I hope he alternates between tentpole/blockbusters and more serious work.

It's not even close in my opinion. Washington is the far superior actor and I don't think Will Smith will ever be as good as him.
