    Re: The Oscars

I like Hugh as an actor as a host we will see but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Its better than Whoopi Goldbergh or Jay Leno!

I can't stand to watch the Oscars. Usually, it seems some crap movies end up winning, the comedians are never funny IMO, and they always are making subtle political statements. I just can't stand it!

I was just thinking, it can't be as bad as Letterman was. I love Letterman and i think he's a genius at what he does but he bombed so badly that i'm sure he doesn't even get an invite to watch the Oscars much less be considered as emcee

The source is only Wikipedia, but it says that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences still holds Letterman in high regard and has repeatedly asked Letterman to host the Oscars again.
The article also said that when he hosted in 1995 (or 96?) it was the highest rated Oscar telecast since 1983.

Interesting, I agree somewhat that Letterman wasn't as bad as it looked at times but I do remember him getting raked over the coals from critics the whole week after the awards aired.

He did get raked over the coals, and I also thought that he was never asked back. I do remember the following year when Billy Crystal hosted, Dave helped him with a taped "The English Patient" spoof that showed Dave being chased by an airplane, shouting, "OPRAH, UMA!!!"

I hate all awards shows anymore.... just the industry j**kin' each other off for about 3-4 hours.

I nominate Frost/Nixon awesome bio pic followed by another bio pic Cadillac records. These period pieces are incredible. A stunning performance by Beyonce as Etta James in Cadillac Records. See these movies.

If Frost/Nixon even comes close to capturing half of the quality of the real interviews, its a must-watch for me. Those interviews are incredible to watch.

Why are so many of the movies limited release? They'll have to give a best pic nom to TDK just to get people to watch.

                          Hugh Jackman? Hosting the Oscars?

Perry Cox and I are very pissed.
