I suppose that's where you and I are at disagreement. At that point, it's all up to the director IMO.

Casino Royale had a $150 million budget, and Quantum of Solace had $225 million. Both are big budget films, but when watching both movies, it becomes hard to figure exactly where the money all went to in QoS, but Casino Royale is much more understandable. Martin Campbell took the right approach and still spent that "little" for a 145 minute movie, when Forster tried to replicate a Greengrass approach (it's the only action movie I've seen him direct) and failed, filming just north of 100 minutes.

If the director finds a good way to manage the budget and how to spend it wisely, he or she can make a big budget movie (assuming a decent storyline) much better than we are used to.

Just look at The Dark Knight. Nolan uses minimal CGI and camera cuts, tries to put everything into perspective exactly how they shoot it, and relies on atmospheric elements as well as any other director.

I'm speaking primarily about horror films, so I didn't have any other films in mind when I was replying.

Oh, then I probably agree mostly with what you have said. Saw is an example of a low budget horror movie, and it has increased budget since then. You're definitely right about atmosphere in that regard; while I like Saw III and Saw V more than Saw, the atmosphere in Saw is unparalleled. Even when we revisit the bathroom in the other movies, it simply isn't the same as it is in the first one.

I think The Strangers handled their budget (I believe it was around $10 million) very well in a way that it resembled a classic horror film. The Ring needed a bigger budget IMO (and excelled meanwhile), but it's a different kind of horror movie than the other ones we're referring to.

I liked the Halloween remake though, definitely a different look on things. I can see why people don't like it when compared to the original, but if the original didn't exist I feel most people would have a different take on it (though the acting and dialogue in the second half goes to ****).

If you knew me on a personal level, you could ask anyone who knew me and asked them what is his favorite movie, they would tell you Halloween, ask anyone. I always been in love with this series, as a kid my aunt had Halloween on VHS and every ime I went up there, I had my cousin watch it with me, until the pint I went to my aunts house she would say Goodbye, because I always watched Halloween.

Anyway. I like what I saw in the H2 trailer, even though I didn't care for the first Zombie one, this one looks good.

Well, four of my friends just saw the movie and they all said it was terrible. For whatever it's worth, all of them were fans of the old Halloween movies but didn't really like the remake. I'm going to see it tomorrow along with THE Final Destination (still trying to figure out why they couldn't just call it Final Destination 4 but whatever). If you guys haven't seen it by then ill let you know what I thought about it.

I've never seen the originals so I can't say how it compares, but there were a couple scenes that were... out there.
