Perhaps I saw a different version, as I never saw a rape scene. And the scene where he's wearing the boyfriend's glasses was also in the original. But IMO they didn't feel out of place... they just felt like any other horror movie is all, which isn't that great.
'The Movie Critic Blzer' doesn't know about the Unrated Cut? LOL! Yeah, in the Unrated Director's Cut there is a rape scene in Michael's cell. It was rather disgusting and distasteful imo. This is the reason why he breaks out of the cell, is due to 2 guys opening the cell and partaking in a rape scene on his bed.

I ordered the Blu-ray on Black Friday but with free shipping. When I checked the status on my e-mail, it said this in the e-mail:

      Shipping estimate for these items: December 15, 2008 - December 17, 2008

This e-mail was sent November 29th. I figured I would be home at that time and so changed my shipping destination. Then on December 4th, I get an e-mail that says "Your order has shipped!" So I now have them at home, waiting for me. I'll see it soon enough though.

And I'm no movie critic... at least not for their quality anyway. But that doesn't mean nobody can be.

Blzer, you didn't see the rape scene in the jail cell? It was disgusting and I felt dirtier for having watched it. Halloween movies and rape just don't go together.

Come on, we both know that this movie pales in comparison to the previous Halloween movies.

I think we all know that it pales in comparison to the original, but its not that bad of a movie.

Yeah, it just strayed too much from the originals.

Again, we must have seen different versions of the movie... I saw theatrical and you saw unrated.

And it's just hard to compare, I mean they didn't exactly go the same route with these movies. The original is more eerie (though I have to admit I'm simply tough to frighten if this is supposed to be the scariest movie of all time), and the remake was rather disturbing, especially when Michael does what he does as a child. Not really anything to compare IMO. Compared to other horror movies today, the Halloween remake is not the best, whereas compared to other horror movies for a good 20 years, Halloween was definitely atop my own list (and many others still rank it #1 today). Though, I don't like to live in the past, and when I see something better, I'll take it.

I'm not saying the remake is better, I'm just saying that people really do hark on it too much for not matching the original, when it didn't even try to relate to the original.

Then don't call it Halloween or have Michael Myers in it. If you call it Halloween 1, have the same characters in it, people are going to compare it to the far superior original.

Halloween ranks up there with The Fog in the list of top 5 worst horror remakes ever.

This is one film that strikes the nerve of a lot of people. To me, its an enjoyable film, but I hate the way Zombie portrayed the Myers family and that rape scene.

                          NO MORE ZOMBIE MOVIES...

He just killed the remake and now he will ruined the Halloween movie series.

This is true, and in fact, it probably would have done much better if they did that (though then people would find ways to call it a Halloween rip-off). I feel the same way with any Saw movies past the third one... that they could have made what they have and not called it Saw. I enjoyed my trilogy.

However, there are a few nice remakes, Batman included, that did a rearranging of the characters and made it work just as well, if not better, than the original stuff. I don't know if we can use novel-to-screen adaptations as well, but Fight Club and Bourne faired very well for their on-screen performances as well.

So I guess there are both sides to it. Basically, I just don't see it as the same kind of movie as the first Halloween, so I'm not even going to try and compare it. With that said, in my movie collection will only be sitting one of them, which is the remake. I can just see myself watching it more. The thing about scary movies (original Halloween) is they lose their scare factor over time.

Do you mean "faired very well" in the overall outcome, or how well they translated the substance of the book into a movie?

I'd say both. Now, compared to the books (which I have not read for the lack of time but have been dying to), people say the books just absolutely dominate. However, I've also heard people say that the book being translated onto screen would not have been as compelling of a movie overall (or series, whatever). That's why I said what I said.

I have read Fight Club, though.
