Mamma Mia!-The Most Successful Movie Not Talked About On This Board

Looking for a Christmas gift for your girlfriend/wife, mother or aunt try Mamma Mia! on DVD. I saw it with my girl when it first came out and I actually liked the movie. Some catchy songs, Meryl Streep and charismatic friend Christine Baranski (Cybil Shepherd's best friend on the Cybil TV show) make this a truly enjoyable musical. It is the most successful movie musical of all time, and the highest grossing film of alltime in the United Kingdom. It is also the fastest selling DVD of alltime in the UK selling 1,669,084 copies on its first day of release. Worldwide it brought in over half a billion dollars.

I'm sure it's decent, but my hatred of ABBA would cause me never to be able to last 5 minutes of it.

Why would anyone expect a chick-flick musical based on the songs of ABBA (a group played out by the early 80's) to be talked about here @ OS?

Why not, especially if the suggested DVD gift would make your girl like you a little better possibly offsetting your sparkling personality?

To each his own. Evidenced by this movie's success she's probably in the minority.

My brother's wife is like that. My girl likes both, but I hated the Fried Green Tomato movie.

I guess watching The Shield, Sopranos, Sons Of Anarchy, Dexter, all violent mob movies mean nothing.

Fried Green Tomatoes is a great movie, though. Who cares what genre you want to toss it into. A good movie is a good movie.

That's kind of like talking about the ********* life you led until you decided to just kill that one person. All it takes is one transgression of this magnitude.

True, I just didn't like this one.

I told you why it wouldn't be talked about on OS. Because its "a chick-flick musical based on the songs of ABBA".

                              Chick flick - strike one
                              Musical - strike two
                              ABBA - Strike three.
