You give Cowherd too much credit, and he is the only guy I listen to in the 10 am-1 pm block. He is a rabble rouser that takes an opinion that is opposite of the majority just so he can piss people off. As far as telling it like it is, two years ago he was talking **** about soccer and their fans basically making fun of both, now that ESPN is spending a fortune on the sport Colin loves soccer.

I was just hoping they would at least give MMA some love, since the greatest fighter of all time got KO'd last night. But I digress.Comment

Actually, they are trained. At least at most big-time universities and in the pros. There's a world of difference between interviewing a professional or collegiate athlete and interviewing a high school athlete. And not all of it is due to maturity.Comment

I have no real problem with ESPN other than SC not being full of highlights like I remember them having when I was younger.
They're in the entertainment business. And that's what I take the channel as. Entertainment.
I'm not watching for in depth sports takes or anything like that. I have more than enough local sports radio and nightly sports TV shows for that living where I do.
I don't even dislike Skip Bayless like so many seem to. Guy's entertaining. Great at what he's on the air for.
Never did understand all the hate ESPN gets from folks. Guess some don't have other options where they live?Comment

I don't watch ESPN, it is probably the worst sports network out there tbh. Like seriously, you would rather air a Hot Dog Eating Contest rather than a real sport? It is ridiculous. Also they air billiards, poker, darts, spelling contests, who the hell cares about that? There are so many sports out there that don't get coverage from ESPN, but they would rather put up 4 dudes choking on hot-dogs.Boston Celtics

Within the last couple weeks they've had: Tennis, Women's Professional Fastpitch, American Le Mans Series, X Games, WNBA, College Baseball Home Run Derby, Canadian Football, Professional Lacrosse, College Lacrosse All-star game, etc.
There's only so much time they can fill out with whatever other sports you are thinking of, but they give more exposure to smaller sports than other networks. You may not like what they show, but to say they don't show "real sports", is asinine when this dead period of major sports besides MLB is probably the best time to find those unique sports on their networks.Last edited by TracerBullet; 07-08-2013, 04:34 PM.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: ESPN is now dead to me!
They are trained to an extent, but nowhere near as trained as a professional publicist which is why their words are often parsed and taken out of context by sports pundits. My point is that athletes shouldn't be treated like they are politicians and have all their interviews parsed by pundits throwing in "hidden meanings" to make a story out of nothing.Comment

Re: ESPN is now dead to me!
I can't stand SC. Their highlights are like 20 sec each for every sport, except basketball and football. They even show longer highlights for summer basketball than MLB games and Hockey Playoffs games. I mean, c'mon!
The only radio shows that i like from ESPN are "The Herd" and "SVP & Russillo". Even though Cowherd says a lot of dumb things, he still talks about almost every sport, and is not afraid to speak his mind. So does SVP & Russillo.
I tried watching First Take today, and.....i hate it when they talk about baseball, they don't crap about it. They may know the history, but not real baseball.
Today they were talking about Braun and his PED stuff, and how he might get banned after the all-star break. And Stephen A bring up how he only has 9 HR at the moment, after always hitting 30-40 HR and batting above 300. How after the allegations, his numbers have decrease this year. Hmm..... What? the dude missed about a month of baseball, of course he's not going to have the great numbers that he always have. (I'm not trying to defend Braun on his PED allegation here, just in case anyone thinks im trying) Stephen A didn't even know that Braun missed a lot of games this year. If you don't watch baseball, then don't talk about it.MLB: Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves
NBA:Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies

Re: ESPN is now dead to me!
So I flip on Sports Center this morning to hopefully see some highlights of Lincecum's no hitter. I had to suffer through the seemingly endless interview of Dwight Howard twice before anything was mentioned about the no-no. Live Sports Center is the worst thing ever, I'd rather have a prerecorded show replayed over and over again than ESPN having the ability to jam the same crap stories into the show as they fit.Comment

Re: ESPN is now dead to me!
Sportscenter does a horrible job with highlights. The last few times I've had it on, they show like 2 plays, the score, and that's it. I know more than that happened in most games. Would not be shocked if Homer Bailey's no hitter got about a 30 second clip. So much nicer to just watch MLB Network or NBA, whatever, and actually see what happened in a game.
THIS! I thought it was just me or something. I started watching ESPN when I was in the 3rd grade..I'm a college senior now. I always remembered the highlights being a lot longer and a lot more detailed overall. Didn't they used to show a full box score at the end of each highlight? It had a quarter breakdown, top 5-6 guys on each team performance-wise, and a random stat from the game. Those box scores really helped me keep up with the leagues I enjoyed watching growing up and got me into sports I typically didn't care about...like hockey. Even if I didn't understand the sports, I knew who all of the 2nd and 3rd tier guys were just from seeing the stats at the end of the highlights.
Nowadays the hockey highlights are a joke. Barely any stats and they show just the main goals. Same goes for the baseball highlights. Baseball is a sport dominated by stats...yet ESPN rarely shows any during their highlights. Is it just me noticing this or have they really changed the way they've been broadcasting lately?Comment
