Totally...and really, I personally don't read the actual paper "paper" anymore. I used to get it, but I just don't have the time/desire and it'd go to waste. I end up getting enough news on the net while at work. Newspapers around the country are hurting big time as circulation numbers go down and they're trying to figure out how to make money in the internet space.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

It really isn't.
Computer news is superior to print media in every single way aside from portability. Crying about print media dying is like crying about the horse drawn carriage market dying in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.Comment

It was good to read, but otherwise I get my gaming news online.
I couldn't read a book online, but for random news and stuff it's fine.
Maybe eventually we'll have something like the Amazon Kindle but better...then you have essentially "print" media, but just downloadable and no actual paper.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: EGM is done, no more 1up show either
I actually enjoy getting my copy of Game Informer, although I'm not crazy about their reviews. I suppose like many said, this was inevitable for EGM, but I never really read their magazine.
It's hard though to find quality writing on the subject. With magazines, your may have 3-4 that you can turn to. The internet is full of commentary and opinion, making it rather difficult to find decent reviews etc. By far, my favorite writer is Douglas Perry. He used to be with IGN but went off to assist with another project.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: EGM is done, no more 1up show either
I'm gonna miss EGM. Been a subscriber since my college days in the mid 90's. Always looked forward to it in my mailbox. But since Shoe and Crispen left...It lost something IMO. They were the last of the old-school crew. I liked hearing about the crap they did back when they were in Chicago.
Best of luck to all.Comment

Re: EGM is done, no more 1up show either
EGM carried me through the 90's, so it's very sad to hear this. The magazine is no where near what it once was and the internet scoops almost everything now so I wasn't waiting on the next issue like I used to.
I'll always remember staring at screenshots for hours with anticipation in my bedroom and reading the same review of a game I wanted until i had it memorized. Things were simpler before you had to pay for stuff yourself...
And we have full blown demos and videos of games now...screenshots are neutered. The line must be drawn HERE! This far, no further!Comment

1UP director Sam Kennedy: UGO not 'the bad guy'
"There's no way to rationalize this for most people, and I don't want to sugarcoat anything," he says. "Fact: 1UP was a business that was losing money. Fact: This economy sucks and the ad market is diminished.
"UGO did what they could to, what I consider, 'save' 1UP. Obviously, all of us would have wanted to see things go differently - most of all me, considering I just lost many of my closest friends as coworkers and employees today ... If any company out there would have been willing to support us as we were, they certainly didn't step up. The only company that really did was UGO, and they did their very best to continue 1UP.
I have a commitment from the UGO guys that they -- now, actually, we -- are going to do whatever we can to help these guys out and look for ways to continue these shows with them and/or to look into possibilities for new shows in the future. I'm not saying everything will be back to 'normal' as you knew it anytime soon, but I am saying there should be some good things to look forward to in the future."

I hear people say, "I get my news from blogs." Well, hate to burst your bubble, but where do you think 99% of bloggers get their information? NEWSPAPERS and NEWSPAPER WEBSITES!
I agree that the newspaper industry was ignorant to the fact that the Internet was changing the shape of information in our country, but that doesn't mean that newspapers aren't a viable source of information or that they will be going away for good.Currently Playing:
